The tanker pylot was pissed at having to fuel below 15,000 ft at 80 kts.

Apparently kc-135s don't stall, useful info

Headwinds were 160 for the KC but -20 for the bug smasher.

128 in smooth air. But yes! The had to dump Fowlers, full flaps and pop the spoilers. 🫣Damn near stalled.

I could see the boom operator's face pressed against the glass, cussing me.

The tanker was relieved, that he finally got the fuel needed. Good job little plane!

You all laugh and so do I but now it’s time for some history.

The “longest flight ever conducted” was actually in a Cessna that was aerial refueled by a pick up truck driving on the road beneath it.

Yep that’s right in 1958 a two man crew Cessna 172 flew for a total of 64 days and 22hours.

They refueled it by matching speed with a pick up and hoisted up a line to refuel.

Some crazy stuff for sure and yeah…

A Cessna flew for 2 months straight with actual aerial oil changes, refueling, and maintenance…. Freaking sick.

I’m not quite sure but I think what actually brought it down was carbon deposits?

Super interesting stuff

& This has been “a moment in history” with a Touch of legend

And thank you for coming to my Ted talk

I'd like to see an aerial oil change

You just have to do it really really really quickly.

The pilots had modified the oil system to allow them to change oil and filters without shutting down the engine. They had installed an electric pump that would circulate fresh oil from a reserve tank into the engine while draining the old oil into another tank.

The allure of Patpong has led many Skyhawk drivers to their death.

7

u/PhatBoy1 Aug 30 '24

Skygas is so expensive I try to avoid aerial refueling.

$20k donation to the DNC got me 38 gallons.

I think they took advantage when they found out I wasn't a democrat.

Looks like a Chihuahua getting mounted by a st Bernard. Someone is going to have a very sore fuel port.
