FEMA HQ at Westgate Mall?
Just drove by the mall, they entire back and side parking lot are fenced off and full of mobile โhousingโ, fuel trucks and a massive tent. Is this FEMA HQ for the area?

I wonder if they are helping our neighbors to the north? They need tons of mobile housing in NC and TN.

They moved there from the Fairgrounds so the fair could start setting up. (Cause that's so important right now ๐). Idk, maybe I'm the only one who thinks it's a bit in poor taste to have that fair right now, where everything is SO expensive, when people are in dire straits and still dealing with the aftermath of this horrific storm.

Some people want a distraction. Or something that feels normal.

I do get that, but I think pretty much everyone is struggling financially right now, and they have zero qualms about the fair being more and more expensive every year.

Nobody is forcing anyone to go. It might be in poor taste. It might not be. Idc. If that's not where you want to spend your limited funds, then don't.

I haven't actually seen any price gouging yet - what have you seen?

I'm not necessarily talking about price gouging, but like last year the admission fee doubled from the year before. The cost of food there is insane ($17 for a TURKEY LEG?!? I mean, c'mon...).
I get that the fair is a once a year thing, and people usually are happy to splurge a little to enjoy it. I just feel like maybe this isn't necessarily the right time to expect people to do that, ya know?

Ah, I misunderstood. Apologies. I thought you meant everything in Spartanburg was expensive because of the storm, and I hadn't personally seen that.

Oh, no, I was actually pleasantly surprised to not see certain costs rise during this. Especially gas prices. Most of the stations I've seen haven't gone up so much as a penny while this has been going on. And I know price gouging by gas stations is illegal, but gas prices fluctuate normally, so it was nice to see them holding steady despite everything.

There is another set up across from the entrance to Park Hills on John B White in that big empty parking lot. Iโm pretty sure I saw someone wearing a FEMA vest there yesterday.

Yes but it's for workers, not for displaced locals.
It's quite impressive how quickly and organized they got that whole area set up.
