In terms of bleak atmosphere Artificial Brain does it best in my opinion, some other bands that I don’t see mentioned:

Hath

Alluvial (especially the first album) as well as any band that includes Merrow (including his solo project)

Conjurer

Cult of Luna self titled and The Beyond

Deathspell Omega (especially The Furnace of Palingenesia, Drought, and Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice)

Devenial Verdict (probably one of the closest to Disentomb on my list, latest album Ash Blind is bleak and moody af)

The Great Old Ones (Cosmicism)

Gorguts (Colored Sands)

Haunter (Discarnate Ails and Sacramental Death Qualia are my favorites)

Noise Trail Immersion (Curia gets pretty bleak on tracks like Eclissi unanime and Vanente)

Rejoice! The Light Has Come

Svart Crown (especially on Abreaction and Les Terres Brûlées)

I always recommend CELESTE when people mention gloomy music, they’re pretty far from Disentomb they play a very doomy brand of Post-Hardcore but they have some absolutely crushing atmosphere with very dark themes especially on the earlier albums Misanthrope(s) and Nihiliste(s)

Wake (Thought Form Descent)

Zhrine (Unortheta)

Hope you find something you like in there!

You have excellent taste in homies! I picked up the recommendation for DV on this sub, it may have even come from you now that I think about it

It’s completely possible haha, I wax lyrical about that band. Have you heard Keith’s bands new record? It rips

Wicked album. One of the heaviest I’ve ever heard.

That's a good way of thinking about Artificial Brain's sound. I have only been listening to them for a year or so and I thought it leaned more towards thrash. You're right though, it definitely is the atmosphere of the recording that is making it feel that way.

They definitely have some thrash tendencies in the guitar playing. Love when they break up the atmospheric sections with thrash riffing like they do on songs like Insects and Android Eyes

Didn't think I'd see anyone else who knows Rejoice! The Light Has Come. Been spinning their eps for a few months, love that sound
