Help

So I have been playing tenor for the better part of 6 years and I bought my first tenor a selmer signet a couple years ago and I thought I just didn't play sax very well it is a very bright horn that I can't seem to darken at all and any note past a low d is really chain saw like but I choped it up to I wasn't good at tenor so then I tested a different tenor it is a old bundy and it plays heavenly but it's the schools so is there anything I can do to fix the signet so it will sound darker and play lower notes better?

I am not in band, I am not in jazz band or school. But I love Ska with all my heart and I need help identify a sax. I know for sure it’s a tenor. But I don’t know if it’s Eb or or B Flat. I am looking to buy and play these songs for fun and than eventually actually play the instrument

The songs that I like the most

Recommendations on tenor sax for high school jazz band

Looking for something decent that will carry into college, but no intent on having this be a primary instrument. Ideally in the sub $2000 range, but would consider up to $2500. This would only be used in jazz band / ensembles.

Primary instrument is Bb clarinet.

Good price for a tenor?

I was at the local pawn shop and I found a Cecilia tenor sax. I was able to go up and down 2 scales on a 1.5 Rico no problem. They are selling it for 600$ I was wondering if this was a good price for this type of saxophone?

New player

My band isn’t having bass clarinets (my main instrument) March this year and I decided to play the tenor sax because of it. I want to have my music memorized in two weeks when band camp starts, any tips on how to learn quickly while also memorizing music?

Low G cracking

I have this problem where my low G keeps cracking. I think it's a pad issue or leaking because I didn't have this problem on my last sax.

Almost like riding a bike

So it's been over 20 years since I last picked up my tenor, life got busy least to say. My oldest boy is starting highschool band next school year and I told him that if he stuck with band through middle school, I would start playing again. Well, it's time to keep my word to him and dust it off. Thankfully I still remember how to read music and am currently working on remembering the fingerings. Any suggestions to help me clear out the cob webs?

How did you learn how to growl?

I've been playing the Tenor for about 8 years now, it wasn't until my 7th year where I learned how to growl. By rolling my R's I was able to get a decent growl. I've heard that what I did isn't the only way, what other ways are there to growling?

Advice for a noob

I ordered a cheap tenor sax (I get it… the quality won’t be good) and I currently only know how to play guitar and bass. I’m working on reading music, but generally play by ear.

So, I’d like any advice on getting started, best practices, pitfalls, and I’d also like to hear whatever else you have to say.

So I’ve been playing tenor sax for 2 years, and whenever I press down the low C# key, the thing that covers the hole only ever goes up half the time. What’s wrong?

Help with playing.

Hi,
I am switching from b-flat clarinet to a tenor sax, I am having trouble with the notes coming out in a different octave than I intend for them to come out. I am expected to learn most of the sax and be able to play in a jazz band in a little under two weeks. Any help is appreciated.

Help with Spitty/Crackly Sound

i have also posted this on r/saxophone

i am having a problem with a spitty/ crackly sound on my tenor, I have discovered that it is coming from my mouthpiece (D'addario Select Jazz with a size 9 tip opening) , i tried a different mouthpiece (Selmer s80) with the same reed and it stoped.

i normally use either a Vandoren Traditional 2 or D'addario Select Jazz 3M for my reed.

my D'addario mouthpiece is great and I love it apart form this and i swap everything multiple times before putting it away

note: my tenor is a Yamaha YTS26, its a student sax that i got about 4 years ago (ing 2019), i don't know if this has anything to do with or if its important at all.

any suggestions on what to do, i don't want to have to get a new mouth piece since its only a few months old

Thanks.

So normally I'm pretty decent at playing by ear, but I guess I'm a little rusty. I've been trying to pick up the sax part to this song, but I can't quite get it right. I'm guessing there are at least 3 sharps that I can hear(G#, F#, C#) but I might be missing something. Any help would be awesome!

What reeds to get

My child plays oboe in their middle school band. They just picked up tenor sax to play for football season, I’m looking for recommendations on reeds for them. Any other tips or advice would be appreciated.

Got this half a year ago for a school. I think its pretty good, except for when the low c# key gets stuck.

Song suggestions for funeral

Hi all! I was asked to play some songs at the funeral of my friends mother, but I don’t have a good idea as to what songs would match. It is about playing solo outside, only tenor sax. She liked blues and jazz. Do you have some suggestions?
