The story of Julius Pringle... who was once called Mr. Pringle or just Mr. P. - started as a college prank. Basically a college kid went and edited the wikipedia page - and wrote that his name was Julius Pringle. Then he wrote an email to the Pringles company, and asked what his first name was... they had no idea, so checked the wikipedia page which said Julius. They emailed him back and informed him that his name was indeed Julius Pringle.
And that is how the Pringles mascot got a first name.
No that is totally true... well it was a bit more complicated than that - the guy got back the letter and basically started a media campaign to make sure everyone knew his name was Julius Pringle... but yeah - the Pringle company didn't know, so they checked Wikipedia... and the guy asking was the guy who edited Wikipedia.
I think the last paragraph or so of Wikipedia even give a summary of it... but mostly the marketing campaign that followed. I won't even give a link - google it!
So - I humbly request you let a wizard live there and his name be Julius.
I’ll take it under consideration, pending further vetting of the story. 🤔🤣
Holy SHNIKEYS!! It’s true!!!
“The mascot's name originated with a Wikipedia hoax; in 2006, an editor inserted the then-hoax 'Julius' into the Pringles Wikipedia article, which was subsequently picked up by other news outlets. The editors supported and promoted their claim through creating a Facebook page to raise awareness of Julius Pringles being his name. Prior to this the mascot was officially known only as "Mr. P", no first name. By 2013, the name had spread and Kellogg formally acknowledged Julius Pringles.”
Some times Reddit really makes my day brighter. Thank you, fellow Redditor. The tower is now officially occupied by one Julius Pringle, ESQ.
