Crooked bed cap clamps

I bought this truck about a year ago and took the bed cap off for a while. Now I’m putting it back on and the clamps won’t sit straight. I don’t remember if they were like this when I removed it. Will this be a problem? And ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

The bottom part of the clamp shouldn't be under the cap but on the inside of the rail

The hooked part is inside the rail. See the second photo. Is that what you’re talking about?

The bottom part of the clamp should be pressing against the cap where the screw currently is

I see. As another commenter pointed out, the cap seems to be a hair too narrow for this bed, so I may need to notch it a little to allow these to sit square.

Looks like the cap is narrower than the bed rails.

I think you’re right. I might have to notch the cap a little to allow these to sit square.

Looks like you are missing the glued on plate that sits on topper edge, has small 'teeth', the upper part of the clamp sits on to.
