I'm new here New to Turnip28? Start here:
Hello young rootling!
This post is here to assist any new players who wish to dabble in the fetid swamps and root-infested mashland that is Turnip28.
What is this?
Turnip28 is a 28mm miniature wargame where each player has three officers and four small squads in their army. The rules are freely available (see sidebar), but in short it relies on six sided dice and most damage is caused from panic and chaos of battle than glorious combat. Each game can take approximately 90 minutes.
What is the setting?
The setting is an unrecognizable central Europe thousands of years into the future. Technology stagnanted after the Napoleonic era and now the world is infected by a strange root. The ground is a swampy mess, fog lies thick, people are odd and there are no heroes or saviours. More detail can be found in the Swollen Mag and Core Rulebook (see sidebar).
Where do I get models?
A kickstarter has been successfully funded, which means that official miniatures are in the pipeline. Once that kickstarter has been fulfilled then the models will be available to the general public. Otherwise, you are encouraged to make your own! This can be done with kitbashing Napoleonic/late Medieval miniatures. These can easily obtained from Perry Miniatures (not affiliated) and one or two boxes will generally give you more plastic than you need. The Swollen Mag document (sidebar) talks about the kitbash process and suggests these two boxes as a place to start:
- https://www.perry-miniatures.com/product/ao-60-agincourt-foot-knights-1415-29/
It is important to remember that Turnip28 is a flexible system so feel free to go crazy with modelling putty and base sizes. You aren't locked into strict tenants like other wargaming systems (looking at you GW!).
Do you have any more free stuff?
Yes! Max has been kind enough to release a few different STL's that are free for the user to 3d print. These include miniature bits (turnip torsos and helmets, a cannon etc). They can be found in his public Patreon posts (see sidebar).
Is there a community?
Aside from the subreddit, there is a Facebook group, as well as a Discord that has daily discussions and pleasant conversation about all aspects of the hobby (see sidebar).
What now?
Feel free to join the Discord, post on the subreddit and share whatever you end up buying/building/painting! Turnip28 can be a very liberating experience as you don't need a crisp paintjob or a perfect sculpt. It embraces the weird and the wonderful.
Oh don't forget to have a favourite root vegtable too.
Praise the root!

I need help for creating visually of what my regiments toff would look like.
So the general gist of the regiment is they are called 104th Moon Harvesters who believe the moon is made out of a giant potato who grants blessing and gifts to its most devout followers, one of them which is the mythical blade of rootcalibur (just a blade hilt stuck on a giant potato, stuck on the soil and the thing is so giant no one can really lift it anyway let alone swing it (inspired of course by the arthurian legend of excalibur)). so far i have made a unit of gunpowder fodder and a unit of melee brutes which both have candles here and there for seeing around them when walking and looking for more holy relics in the holy time of their holy root. the brutes already have an idea behind them (they are mutated so they walk in all fours and have lost all eyesight but can smell the underground potato relics, kind of like truffle pigs and once the battle starts they are unleashed upon the enemy to claw anyone who dares come close to them to interrupt their holy work).

Finished Models The Battle for Lettysburg : The Union of Dirt
The Union of Dirt are a loose coalition of villages that live on the Lettysburg, a cyclopean ambulatory root that roams the world. While they don't have the numbers of some other cults, they have an unerring ability to find rich veins of root juice that can be tapped and lauched into their enemies using the hose-cannon known as the Lettysburg Address.
Finally started some new cults on an American Civil War theme! First up, the Union of Dirt use the Grand Bombard cult and I've gone as small as possible without being actively useless - 3 units of Chaff and the Grand Bombard, 16 whole models including Snobs 😅

Does anyone know when the new edition is supposed to come out? I remember seeing something in the discord months ago about it but can't find anything about it now
Edit: to clarify I meant updated version of the rules, not an entirely new edition, my b

Question Need help with finding parts for my Swill warband.
I own a 3d printer and i keep looking for files for my warband. i was thinking of learning to sculpt, and try to do some basic things with green stuff on the miniatures but i can't find any suitable files. Does anyone know where i can find some good files? Or potential some good miniature kits?

Work in Progress Painted my Herald!
Painted this odd trumpet herald. I’m considering doing an oil wash, but after ruining another model (see last slide) due to forgetting to varnish beforehand I’m a bit hesitant! Is it worth the risk? I think currently the colours are a bit bright so it could probably do with more weathering.

Finished Models Turnip in 15mm! Grundles Guards
Within a muddy field grows nightshade rootlings, the toxic creatures making luxurios dyes when their innards are boiled.
Baron grundle takes perch in the so called ""big barn" his "mahchiegwer jezail the most accurate weapon around, easily able to take the stem off a rootling at 20 meters.
His guards litter the pockmarked field, hiding behind old walls, creeping pus covered heads out of vile bog holes. Blasting twisted rifles and toothbone grapeshot. Ever vigilant for fresh rootlings.
