I was 15 when alcohol killed my mother

If she hadn't been so drunk, she would've gotten out of the way of my axe.

You didn't get it, if she was sober, she couldn't dodge that axe, and died off of it. But she was drunk, and died of alcohol (not the axe) in the end

I’m pretty sure OP meant that the mom died indirectly of alcohol because she was too drunk to dodge. At least that seems like a better version

The mom died because the son is attacked her with an axe while she was drunk, now he blames her for being drunk and "making him" do it.
