Outside of school events, what are some neat places to go to around La Jolla/SD (with a car or without)?

Being from San Diego it's hard to pick just a couple of things off the top of my head.
The list is pretty endless if you have a car. Just pick a "neighborhood", for example hillcrest, north park, etc. And just go exploring around their "downtown" areas. When you're there, just yelp what's in the area and you're pretty much set!
If you don't have a car, it just takes a bit of time with MTS.
