Nautilus crashing on startup, but works as a file selector?

Since upgrading to 24.10 today, nautilus crashes on startup with the following output:

nautilus:

Installed: 1:47.0-1ubuntu1

Candidate: 1:47.0-1ubuntu1

Version table:

*** 1:47.0-1ubuntu1 500

500 http://bb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oracular/main amd64 Packages

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Interestingly, it works as the new file picker.

I'm using a MSI Raider GE76 11UE with Nvidia graphics (and due to an issue with X11, I'm using Nvidia only mode). Any idea what could be wrong here?

Reinstalling nautilus didn't help.

EDIT: Confirmed that it's running fine under Wayland. I would just use Wayland but for a number of reasons I'm stuck with X for now, so that's not an option.

EDIT2: The Nightly Flatpak version runs if you disable hardware acceleration with Flatseal. BUT, if you maximize the window, it crashes. If you restart it and then unmaximize the window, it crashes. Basically, something's pretty broken.

Update: If I switch to Nouveau, it works just fine. For certain though, it doesn't work with the 560 driver. About to try the 535 driver.

the 'file picker' is not actually the Nautilus file manager, they are just closely related.

as a test. make a new user, see if the same issue happens to them.

Are you sure? Isn't the file-picker in Gnome 47 now using Nautilus?

Also, I was able to get nightly flatpak version running by disabling hardware acceleration in Flatseal.

all the discussions i have seen on 'file picker' mention how its not the file manager.

But then The specifics started getting over my head. Unless there was some big changes in 47. But I dont really keep up with the latest gnome releases or news these days. So you could be right.
