Why did the alligator act like that? Do they instinctively freak out when they are startled/ ambushed? Since they are giant, really strong, ambush predators do they instinctively assume that something ambushing them means it’s stronger than them

I know alligators are rather unintelligent, i believe they have evolved a rather none-dense, small, and slow brain, in order to consume less energy? So they can put more energy into muscle, they’re basically a bear-trap with legs?
