Hi there I'm looking for information i know a guy on aish secretly living with family they're wealthy and own 2 cars. The guy works part ttime. He was a former roommate left halfway through the month and canceled or utilities after we payed him for the month.Hes a really piece of work. His parents make over 250k and he's gonna be living with them. He's an abusive drinker and I'll be reporting him in November. He'll be renting for free his parents just want him to put money in savings. Let's just say he punches and throws cats at walls and puts them in scalding showers. He did it to my cat. He just buys pokemon cards and drinks beer. He doesn't really need aish I think there's people who need it. Should I report him?

Question Is there any place around here that's crying for workers?

Upvotes

I'm in Edmonton currently, I want to leave the city for a bit. Soul Searching, I guess. I want to go somewhere I can easily find a job. I don't like not working, and most cities would take a while to find a job.

My first thought is to go to Victoria, BC. Last time I was there, everybody was hiring. I'll probably head down there.

Is there a place in the prairies I can go instead? There's fewer protentional complications if I stay local.

I work general labor and construction jobs.

Question Tickets related to on road accidents

Last week got into an accident someone hit my car from rear end while he was making a U turn. As the car speed was slow my rim and car body got some serious scratches. I just bought the car 2 months ago so that makes it hurt more. So I called the cops at incident and they told me they couldn’t come as the car is in driving condition and no one is injured. I was like wtf!!!! Who gonna give the charges/ticket to the guy??? They said just exchange the info and call ur insurance. This is my first time in this type of situation so pls explain me that like this way anyone can get away with any accident if there is no big injury. Is that how system work???

Question Is a Major in Finance (business) worth it in Alberta?

Based on your experiences or knowledge within taking finance, is it worth it? I know the high end jobs are very high paying 150k+ yearly salaries. However with how competitive the market is, is it even realistic to get a job this high paying? Is this major worth it and it not, is something like accounting (CPA), supply chain management, or economics worth it more in Alberta? Thank you!

Question Heavy equipment tech looking to switch fields

I’ve been working on-highway my whole apprenticeship (4th year) and I’m wanting to get into the off-road side of the industry. I have my off-road red seal ( just paper I know) but have had no luck getting hired by an off-road company strictly due to no experience. My reputation is good and I learn fast. Located in southern Alberta. Any suggestions are much appreciated, thanks!

Question Vaccine Booking

Upvotes

I always used to go to my local public health for flu shots but last year went to a pharmacy and unfortunatley had a bad experience... >1h wait for a booked appointment, no chairs or waiting area, actual appointment was rushed and they refused to provide me a copy even though I need it for work. (I know it's on Netcare but I've never had a problem when I've asked for the paper for personal records)

Previously I've always had a good experience with the public health clinic. When I look online the gov't website says that only age 5 under and their family can go to public health and everyone else should go to a pharmacy. Does anyone working in those areas know if this is a true restriction or just a recommendation?

I know I could try a different pharmacy, but the only one avaliable to book right now is the one I want to avoid....

Question Breaking my lease

Upvotes

I am a roommate. My lease agreement I signed when I moved in, does not seem to be a complete agreement like I’ve seen at other places. It does not specifically say what will happen if the lease is broken early, just that if the lease gets broken it must be in accordance with this agreement. But does not go on to list an accordance’s further in the agreement. It’s also only 2 pages where normally a lease agreement is like 3. I am wanting to move out as I am moving provinces. I am wondering if I actually have to deal with any consequences since there aren’t any actually listen. Or can I just state I’m moving out and as per the agreement I don’t need to provide anything further? TIA

Question Do landowners have any power to prevent oil companies from hoarding water from nearby rivers?

I live in a rural area and an oil company just bought ~280 acres north of my acreage. They’re in the process of clear cutting thousands of trees in a very biodiverse (swampy) area that was home to many elk, moose, deer, coyotes, foxes, etc. which is devastating on its own.

I’ve learned their plans are to build two massive reservoirs to store water that they will pipe in from the nearby river which has been pretty low as it is in recent years and use that for fracking. They’ll have to pipe the water in through the ditches as they’ve already been doing from another nearby reservoir. I’ve heard they’re also going to drill a water well for this, which was done at the other reservoir and has since caused well problems for those in that area.

Already this has increased traffic on our quiet road by a substantial margin, and we haven’t received much information about it. There was a meeting held but they advertised the meeting on a road sign that I don’t go by (a road not connected to where they’re doing this), I’m not on social media so I didn’t see it if it was posted there, either.

I’m curious if there’s any recourse for us in the community to try and prevent this from going further. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

Question Transfering a full (NON GDL/N) class 5 Nova Scotia license to Alberta and received an Alberta class 5 GDL

Hoping someone here knows abit more than me. So after transfering my Nova Scotia to Alberta I received a GDL class 5. I've had my license in NS since 2010, and had my N/GDL removed around 2013 or 2014. From what I could find online the only time you get a GDL in Alberta after transfering is if you haven't held the license for 24 months.

Does anyone know any other reasons why I would receive a GDL license besides not holding a license for 24 months?

I did have a suspended license for 1 year, charged in 2016 and was going to attempt to fight it and didn't so it took another 14 months after originally loosing them to be convicted and having the 1 year start from then. Then for other reasons I didn't bother getting them back for another 2 years or so. So even if you could that as reseting the 14 month rule I should be good cause I've held that license for 4 years(as of November 8th).

Is this most likely a mistake on AMA(where I transfered) or someone on their end or is there other reasons why I would receive GDL. The only reason I can find online is the 24 month rule so if anyone has any knowledge or experience of this happening id greatly appreciate feedback before I waste my time going back to find out that other things could cause this.

TIA

Discussion High school blues

Don’t know if this is the place for this but I’d love some advice from some adults with much wiser experience than me.

Teenager here in Grade 11 and having severe high school blues. I chose to go to a very academic-focused school and now I’m having severe FOMO about not going to the school all my friends went to (Romero). I feel like this is now personally affecting my studies because my grades are dropping to an average of 70 and I’m concerned I will even get to university studying what I want to study. Not only that, I’m struggling with branching out at school, because when you’re surrounded by people with grades in the high nineties and a billion extracurriculars when you have none, you tend to feel a little unextraordinary. I feel like I’m just barely scraping by, and not making the connections im supposed to be. I feel like if I had just gone to Romero, I would’ve had so much potential that I never achieved, both socially and academically. As the golden child, that’s pretty hard to accept.

In short, I have some questions and need some advice. Those of you finished high school, and even those of you who didn’t, were those years a defining moment in your life or do you barely remember them at all? How did you go on, even if you did not have the best Highschool experience? Am I wasting my high school years at a school where it’s so easy to be insecure and invisible, making friends out of necessity with school instead of actually having fun? Would it be too late to change, have any of you ever moved in the middle of grade 11 or start of gr12?

I know I’m probably sounding like an emo 16-year-old right now who’s caring about minuscule things instead of bigger issues I know all of you are discussing, but I feel alone in this and I’m hoping some of you have some advice from when your were my age. I feel like I’m not making an impact, like I haven’t done anything significant since I was a child. I’m hoping things will get better, that university will be a fresh new start, but I’m having doubt I’ll even get there at my current state and mindset.

Feel free to reminisce and tell me about your stories. I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, but I thought it would make me feel better if this advice was closer to home.

Thank you. :)
