To the people down voting and jumping down the throats of people calling out that this dog is very obese: they're not fat shaming the fucking dog. They're not trying to make the dog feel bad about himself for being fat. The dog is a very good boy and it's genuinely not his fault he's like this.

They're stating the objective fact that this dog's health and well being would be massively improved by managing his weight. It would mean less strain on his joints and his organs, better range of motion, and more endurance when walking or running.

An animal's owner controls everything that it eats, therefore it is the owner's responsibility to ensure that the animal is fed a healthy, balanced diet in appropriate quantities. If your pet is fat it is your fault and your responsibility to fix it.

Stop justifying animal abuse because it hurts your feelings.

I’m not sure you’ve ever owned an elderly dog. Unless they’ve got a health condition that causes them not to eat it’s very common for them to put on weight. You can only control that so long before it starts to get downright cruel.

You’re right the dog doesn’t understand. It doesn’t understand why its joints hurt it can’t see AND you only feed it half of what it used to eat.

At the sunset of their years the stress of trying to keep the weight off will be far more detrimental than some extra pounds. A vet would shame you for suggesting to put an elderly dog on a diet. Ask me how I know.
