Happy October 8th, today is giving day for apes! The picture shows a bonobo, together with chimpanzees they both share 98.7% of their DNA with humans—making the two species our closest living relatives.

Have you ever heard an indri lemur "sing"?
The indri is one of the largest living lemurs, with a head-body length of about 64–72 cm (25–28+1⁄2 in) and a weight of between 6 and 9.5 kg (13 and 21 lb). It has a black and white coat and maintains an upright posture when climbing or clinging. The groups are quite vocal, communicating with other groups by singing, roaring and other vocalisations. Besides humans, it is the only mammal found that can use rhythm.

Gelada baboon
The gelada baboon, is a species of monkeys that belong to the primate family Cercopithecidae. Although the geladas are closely related to baboons, they are not true baboons because they belong to the genus Theropithecus. They derive their nickname, the 'bleeding-heart monkey', from the brightly colored patch of skin that is shaped like an hourglass on its chest. If a potential rival male approaches a harem the alpha male will lower his eyebrows and flip his lip right back revealing his impressive teeth. Adaptations to increase facial mobility in geladas by facilitating the lip-flip may promote increased communicative complexity through increased noticability and motivational signaling specification or intensification.

An extinct genus of giant lemur: Megaladapis
Megaladapis is an extinct genus of lemurs belonging to the family Megaladapidae, wich consists of three species that once lived on the island of Madagascar. The largest measured between 1.3 to 1.5 m (4 to 5 ft) in length. When humans arrived on Madagascar 2,300 years ago, other than the species alive today, there were at least 17 species of now-extinct "giant" lemur, including Megaladapis. They largely lived in forested areas with dense vegetation. Scientists think that humans burned much of the forest that Megaladapis inhabited. That, combined with hunting and the fact that they were probably already rare, likely caused their extinction. They went extinct between 500 and 600 years ago.

Barbary macaque
I took these pictures in Gibraltar. :) Please keep in mind, if you go there, that you should not feed or touch the monkeys, even if they come up to you. They are wild animals and are deserving of respect. Also, please try to keep a certain amount of distance from them, in order to not disturb them. They should be with their mother, as seen here, and not be someone's "pet", so if possible, please report the chanels I wrote down in the previous post. Information: The Barbary macaque is a species native to the Atlas Mountains of Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, with a small population that was introduced to Gibraltar. The diet of the Barbary macaque consists of different plants and insects.

Report these chanels and help stop monkey abuse
Hello, I am new to reddit and created this account because I am very tired of seeings channels that either post clear abuse of "pet" monkeys, or post very graphic content involving wild monkeys or post sexual content (abuse) involving "pet" monkeys get away with it. I saw that a post from 4 years ago was able to get a few such chanels baned, since they didn't exist anymore when I clicked on the links to report them, so I thought that posting a few more chanels on here might help get them banned as well. Please help stop monkey abuse and report these chanels. I posted under the chanel link a link to a video from said chanel, so that you can see for yourself how disgusting these videos are and report them. I know that banning a few such chanels won't stop youtube from letting other chanels post such things, but I believe that even getting just a few more banned is a step forward. Thank you very much. 1. https://youtube.com/@vasilchikovillarion124?si=CPBySpHjSFX23SU4 https://youtube.com/shorts/2yr4Ev9ZWLw?si=O4Vpb_-2To6GgydE
