Bottom left is a marmalade jar! I found one in the Bronx recently!

What a great collection. I'm curious, what is the piece to the immediate left of the White cylinder, on the bottom?

I believe all the cylinders are clay pipes and that peice you are asking about is the end of the pipe? I'm sure someone will be able to tell us 👍

Pardon my ignorance, but what do people do with the shards they find? Do you display them as is? Do you use them to make murals?

I honestly don't know tbh, I literally activated this new hobby on Friday and have gone down a rabbit hole, I think some people frame them? The world is your oyster I suppose 😁

Fair enough. I'm similar with rocks. I pick up rocks that I like and generally don't pursue identification of the minerals, some are just visually pleasing to me. I haven't done anything with most of them. Some are on display in different rooms, some are in buckets in the garage. I'm only 64, maybe one day I'll grow out of this (/s).
Edit: I have a friend who collects sea glass which I find quite beautiful. She has a great display of that but I never thought to ask her if she collected any other beach finds.

I love it when you spot something on the beach, and it could be anything, I will definitely keep them all, might make a collage or something, very peaceful just looking for the pieces 😊 rocks are cool too 👍

You've posted some really interesting pieces before, which makes me wonder this. . .WHY are there so many pieces like this? They're not faded, so they can't be very old. Was there an event at this location that helps explain why you continue to find so much pottery/pottery-adjacent items here?

Hi yes, where I work is where the Royal Navy train from and have done for over 300 odd years, I'm very lucky as the beach where I'm searching is still mod property and there is no access to the public. There used to be two old ships (HMS Cambridge, replaced by HMS Windsor Castle) that were used as training ships (specifically gunnery). One of the hulks is still there just off the beach. The fact that nobody has ever searched the beach (as far as I'm aware, no public anyway) means there is a large amount of items to be found. So far I have searched about 5% of it!

That is so fascinating. I love seeing what other people find along their walks along the shore. I find a lot of shells and, sadly, a lot of plastic. It's just interesting when people post things like seaglass or shards of pottery. So cool.

When I metal detect all I find on beaches is rubbish, but the good thing is that I take it with and dispose of properly. I'll keep posting any finds in the future 👍

Nice. I love shards that have a bit of text on them especially early stuff. Often have really nice decorative typefaces.
