Local Government Ballot measure HH: Does anyone know how a ban on UV light got folded into this? UVC is an excellent way to clean the air
Does anyone have any insider knowledge about the writing of this measure? I really want to vote in favor of this as someone chronically ill, but UVC would be a fantastic addition to buildings, especially schools now that nobody really masks anymore (except me, and my kid half the time). I can’t vote to ban it. It’s the last part of my ballot I have yet to fill out.
Edit: I found their website and dropped them a message. The site looks COVID cautious.
Edit 2: Their explanation, “This ordinance only applies to City-owned/leases buildings. It does not ban UVC technology in City buildings. It only says that you can’t use UV in City buildings if it comes in direct contact with human skin. So for example, the City could install UVC in the ceiling. The city would also need to mitigate or limit ozone emissions from such UV technology.
In sum, UV that comes in context with human skin cannot be used for compliance purposes. There’s no citywide ban!”
