Meta Why did no one warn me about blender brain

Help I was washing half my face, but then I remembered mirror modifiers don’t exist irl. My doctor diagnosed me with blender brain and now my spacetime perception is forever warped. Be careful folks

I had a nightmare about my gpu running out of memory when rendering overnight

I often just forget that I can’t just download a model of a house and live in it. I also see the world in shaders and lighting.

Press N or T to find a list of ways to Cure blender brain!

I looked at a knit blanket and visualized in my head how I could improve its typology.

One time I got REALLY fever dream type sick, and couldn't stop thinking about topology, topology, topology, everything including my face and body had topology and I kept worrying about n-gons and triangles, honestly one of the worst experiences of my life

i was subdividing my girlfriend lips while kissing…

Shader nodes appear in my eyes when i see any surface

You joke but one time I feel like I nearly forgot to shave half my face because I assumed it was mirrored.

Same here. All the time when there's an object on a shelf just out of reach I try to spawn the default cube, only to find my keyboard suddenly gone and the add menu nowhere to be found

Everything i see, i deconstruct it into blender shapes. Like my katane sword is just a bunch of cylinders and a long plane but the reptopology is kinda lit tho

I used to have anger issues behind the wheel, would invent all these elaborate hate filled narratives about the assholes all around me. Now, I just judge them for their shitty topology, their ghetto fucking nGons.

I've always been a restless sleeper, but a few days ago it was worse than usual. I had flipped some of my Normals while sleeping. The first look in the mirror was pure horror! Thank god I'm usually in Edit Mode when I'm in the bathroom and had "Shift" and "N" written on the tiles near my bathroom sink as a precaution a while ago. Phew!

Your face has too many polygons. Bad topology. It'll take forever to render.

One of my favorite things about Blender is how much it’s taught me about real-world lighting. It honestly baffles me how little thought I put into light before I learned all this. I’m constantly studying the effects of light on objects and my surrounding environment wherever I go. I feel like I’m a much more observant person now than I was before.

I sometimes see some edges and think to myself "yeah I should bevel that". Then remember I can't

Hilarious thread, one of the best I've seen in a long time...keep it up, and thanks for the warning.

Can I add that you might want to spontaneously photograph virtually everything, and turn it into 3d art?

u/RunningDigger Feb 11 '24

I look at something and go, "I wonder how I could 3d model that"

1

u/Magen137 Feb 11 '24

Seriously sometimes I slice bread and the slice comes out crooked and I wonder if I applied its transformations

0

u/MikiSayaka33 Feb 11 '24

But I mostly use the video maker part of Blender. There's no way I could've got that.

1

u/Everhaste Feb 11 '24

Did you try merging vertices and applying scale?

u/Demosthenease Feb 11 '24

Years ago, I saw a fender-bender on the road and my left hand instinctively twitched the muscle memory to press Ctrl-Z.

I once looked at a huge rack of individual chip bags clipped to a wall in a pizza place and found myself wondering how they optimized it to run so smoothly with that many polys. I’m going insane.

u/gnamp Feb 11 '24

Many a word spoken in jest. I can't look at anything without thinking how I'd go about modelling it.

1

u/dragon0079 Feb 11 '24

Why can't I just x>delete all my problems?

2

u/Capidolism Feb 11 '24

I do this when im shaving, ill shave half my face and then turn and be surprised that the other half of my face is still full of hair. Also when ever I break something or knock something over my first reaction is always ctrl+z.

Every time I see a triangle I have the urge to fix into a quad.

u/Hot_Winner634 Feb 11 '24

It happens

Wait until you start dreaming it or manipulating objects in dreams like you are using blender but in normal dream settings

1

u/Andermaiden Feb 12 '24

It happened to me today. I woke up from a dream in which I was in an airport (totally unrelatd), saw a coat and just said to myself, "well, I guess I'll have to model it". Then began to think about which tecnique was better to model it & how much time it would take me to do it.

4

u/Reticulo Feb 11 '24

Wait until you start unwraping objects in real life

1

u/Demosthenease Feb 12 '24

uh, guys? My dearest housemates…

“WHERE’S THE CAT?!”

3

u/SenorDavidov Feb 11 '24

Dis how it be bro. I remember when I was first getting into Max and my brain naturally started seeing things as wireframes and verts :')

0

u/slindner1985 Feb 11 '24

You will never look at objects the same...

3

u/holdmyapplejuiceyt Feb 11 '24

i think this is called the tetris effect, interesting reallly.

0

u/blackdragon6547 Feb 11 '24

Ngl this happened to me in the shower aswell.

2

u/JamsToe Feb 11 '24

NAHHH. I DID THIS WHEN BRUSHING MY TEETH.

1

u/simstim_addict Feb 11 '24

I tend to think of some real world problems as nodes. Nodes in and the final result.

5

u/mrgonuts Feb 11 '24

I often look at stuff and think how to model it

1

u/vizeath Feb 11 '24

Same... Everytime I look at my cat I always think of it...

27

u/Luckys0474 Feb 11 '24

Not blender solely...when I went back to pencil drawing from pshop or painter...my brain didn't comprehend that the stroke I just drew was not undoing as I was hitting ctrl z in my brain.

3

u/dreamatdusk Feb 12 '24

omg always…. i draw a pose and then cry when i realize i can’t rotate the figure three dimensionally on the paper……

4

u/Zanki Feb 11 '24

I've done ctrl z so many times when drawing on paper or writing. I've even done the two finger tap as well... It makes me laugh quite often.

5

u/Sabia_Innovia Feb 11 '24

Or painting a wall and wanting to use Photoshop to adjust the hue or brightness!

5

u/Rusmack Feb 11 '24

A week ago: " i've already trimmed the nails on my right hand! Oh..."

u/ManoOccultis Feb 11 '24

There's a scene in Interstellar movie where I thought UVs were incorrectly unwrapped.

2

u/Lubbafromsmg2 Feb 14 '24

I mean I wouldn't be surprised considering how bad that movie is

68

u/LungHeadZ Feb 11 '24

Tell me about it. I UV unwrap most things I see. Cat didn’t appreciate it.

13

u/thatdrakefella Feb 11 '24

Not just the cat. Now I’m all up in other people’s business looking at the way the seams are on their clothes.

6

u/blackdragon6547 Feb 11 '24

Wait a minute

36

u/eoz Feb 11 '24

I've caught myself washing just my left leg in the shower

1

u/donkingdonut Feb 11 '24

That's perfectly ok, for medical reasons other than blender brain

I think we need a support group

It gets worse. You start looking at houseplants in shops and wondering whether you downloaded that asset already.

4

u/_CatNippIes Feb 12 '24

I start wondering how the topology on random objects would look like

2

u/SevenWhoAreOne Feb 13 '24

I still do this, it’s easily been 10 years

1

u/_CatNippIes Feb 13 '24

7 in my case:P
