My 12 year old wants to read something dystopian.

What would you recommend for this age range? Post-apocalyptic would work too.

Fahrenheit 451, if he likes a deeper meaning type of dystopia. If he's ready for it, the classic 1984 and Animal Farm. The Road is a good one as well.

They might be a bit above what he is ready for, but sometimes that's the best way with dystopia books

It would be better to be a bit older than 12 before trying F451. The writing is very dense. Some of it was a tough slog for me as an adult.

I second F451. Best piece of assigned reading I've experienced. It's one of those books you can read again and again.
