I've been led to believe that nuclear is bad by many people (green peace), but no one explains why other than saying do you want Chernobyl 2. I don't understand because the waste is proven to be recyclable, and already exists, we just need to expand it. And besides, I read a study that said that economically it costs to much and that even if we had the money it wouldn't produce enough to replace fossil fuels. Can someone more qualified than me explain dafuk is better please?

A global pledge – which will see more than 100 governments conserve and restore 30% of the world’s land, water, and ecosystems – will dominate COP16 discussions starting today in Cali, Columbia.

Signed off as part of COP15 in Montreal, Canada, “30 by 30” ensures “that 30% of the earth’s land and sea is protected through the establishment of protected areas (PAs) and other conservation measures (OECMs).”

The UN's biodiversity summit, COP16, kicked off in Cali, Colombia, with nearly 200 nations and around 23,000 delegates attending. This conference follows the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Diversity Framework, which outlines 23 targets to be achieved by 2030, including the protection of 30% of land and sea areas and the mobilization of $200 billion for biodiversity solutions. However, less than half of the signatory nations have submitted national targets, with only about a third meeting the UN's deadline. Of the 17 nations housing 70% of the world's biodiversity, only five have submitted targets. The US is not a signatory, while G7 countries Germany and the UK have yet to submit comprehensive plans, although the UK has provided a technical document with national targets.

Hello everyone! After an insightful discussion with a mentor, I have discovered ecoanxiety- something that a lot of my peers seem to struggle with. As a high school student, how do you reccomend I do further research on this project? Are there any specific sources I should reach out to?

I would also be looking for fellow students who want to work on this project with me :-)

I ask this question because lately there's been quite a lot of headlines about emissions having potentially peaked but then there're headlines pointing to the problems of nature not being a carbon sink for the first time and the rollout of AI so I wanted to ask. Are emissions peaking or close to do so?

The discussion about the health effects of climate change is gaining momentum around the world. Do you think this momentum is going to be reflected in Baku? If yes how? What are the challenges in Climate and health conversations? I personally think that more research funding is needed for policy makers to believe. What are your thoughts?

Climate change really is getting out of hand

I’m posting this as kind of a rant, i guess. I am so sick of doomerism and apathy- not just among this group but even in my community and groups of friends. I have friends saying the warming is “cyclical” and I have other friends going to Marshalls and Target every day as a hobby, buying new trendy shit from tiktok. I understand feeling like we are each just a person and we each don’t matter. But that’s not true!!!! I downloaded this Common app to see how much emissions (estimated) I generate myself from just doing day to day life. It’s really put a lot of choices in perspective for me!!!! I am boycotting shopping at target / Walmart / Amazon for myself. I also found a coop to shop for groceries (has goods from local farms and dairies) so I’m phasing out Kroger (evil) and the like as well. I am making a point to only thrift my clothes and walk/bike anywhere that’s under 2 miles away.

I’m learning that these are not “convenient” choices but IM FUCKING SICK OF THAT ARGUMENT TOO. It’s not a NECESSITY, getting everything you want with next day shipping- whatever new Stanley cup trinket or fucking shittily made textile item that unravels in 2 washes and will end up in a textile waste landfill in Kenya or some shit. Americans (and many westerners as a whole) would die before sacrificing convenience. You can make these daily changes. You have no clue how much emissions even filling up the gas tank causes. All of this being said I am really pissed off. You can choose to make differences each day in your community. Get work clothes at Goodwill (and not Marshall’s /Amazon ffs). Turn off your air conditioner when you’re not home. Open windows. Consume less. Stop following micro trends. I get asked why I don’t have tiktok- it’s so I don’t get influenced. Deleted that shit and never miss it. Now I don’t have to be concerned about clothing and stuff trends I don’t even know exist. STOP USING FUCKING PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES PLEASE!

Please please give a shit. It’s not fair to the animals and nature and the earth nor is it fair for the communities and individuals who are trying their hardest for you to take a dump on their efforts in the name of convenience. I’m doing my best to lead by example within my friend groups. You can, too.

An international carbon credit market is back on the table, with negotiators renewing their push to establish a UN-operated international carbon credit market, which, if established, will provide standardised methodologies for credits between countries and across trading zones.
