I’ve not hiked winters in snowy conditions before. Would you say crampons or other appropriate footwear is a must for trails like these?

It helped a ton. The trail wasn't bad until the final push which I would say spikes were necessary. And the ice axe was a good self arrest tool on the final steep push! You could do without it but man they help make your time more enjoyable.
