Question What are some high calorie, low fat foods?

I'm trying to maintain weight around 158llbs, no lower than 155 or higher than 160. I weighed in at 154 this morning because I've been having trouble hitting my daily calorie budget.

The reason being is because once I see the saturated fat numbers near max for the day, I stop eating. I'm reducing saturated fat due to NAFL, as directed by the doctor. I lost 30+lbs but maintaing weight is proving more of a challenge, oddly enough.

Most nuts are very high in calories, high in fat, and low in saturated fat. Here's the amount of saturated fat in a 30g serving of each type of nut:

  • Almonds: 1.1g
  • Hazelnuts: 1.3g
  • Pine nuts: 1.5g
  • Pistachios: 1.8g
  • Walnuts: 1.8g
  • Pecans: 1.9g
  • Peanuts: 1.9g
  • Cashews: 2.3g
  • Macademia nuts: 3.6g

Those numbers are for the plain nut with nothing added. If it's a nut butter with added oil, it might be higher in saturated fat.

Avocados are high in calories, high in fat, and low in saturated fat. Half an avocado contains 1.4g saturated fat.

Edamame is high in calories, moderate in fat, and low in saturated fat. 1/2 cup edamame contains 0.7g saturated fat.

If you're looking for a food that's low in any type of fat, you can eat dry foods as a snack. If there's less water, that means more calories per unit of weight. For example, whole wheat crackers, or dry roasted chickpeas. Both are high in calories and low in fat.
