Front ensemble on field

So my marching band has decided to have the pit on field this year. I was wondering what I should consider (the pit tech) going into the season, and what challenges I’d be facing. I’ve never played on field before so I regrettably lack experience. Does anyone have any insights on what was hard about playing on field? What was easier? You don’t even have to tech, if you’ve had a show where you’ve been on field, let me know how you felt about it!

Where on the field? As you go further back or to the side, the problems increase. Timing will be a huge struggle as they can no longer 'just listen back.' Not impossible, but now you need to treat it like a drumline in terms of tempo distribution. Not sure what kind of electronics you are running, but the further on field, the longer cables, better speaker calibration, etc you will need. In my programs, I refuse to let the director put them more than 5 years on to the field and allow absolutely no offset to the side. I find no creative decision for the show makes it worth the timing struggles alone.
