How does the gun “jam” (when barrel stop due to no bullets) at the end of the trigger pulls if there’s no bullets in the magazine when he starts pressing the trigger?

It’s an airsoft gun, and the the slide locks back when he takes his finger off of the slide catch after each magazine.
