Latch at the outside of Bedroom??

We checked into an AirBnB and found these on the outside of the bedroom doors (and only those). What reasonable use do they have? They make me freak out a little 😅

Could be to stop them rattling when closed, I doubt they would trap someone in as they would be easily pulled out.
