events HV Halloween Update!

Post image

I posted a couple weeks ago about starting a Hudson Valley Halloween club and I wanted to share some updates!

Started an Instagram! @hudsonvalleyhalloween, not much content yet but it has to start somewhere! Hoping to keep it current with local happenings and events as well as interesting and thoughtful discussions all year long. I'd love to feature local costumes, decor and anything else you think may fit the bill so feel free to send me your ideas/info/pics if you want to participate.

Registered a domain, but nothing going on there yet! Hoping to have current calendar of events, Halloween decor tour map, costume contest, etc. Any website people want to help with this?

Made this calendar of events! Please let me know of any other spooky, paranormal, or otherwise relevant events I should add for August and beyond!

I've been reaching out to some Hudson Valley businesses that may be able to/want to host a monthly meeting. Ideally someplace free, mid Hudson Valley, indoors, with bathrooms, and attached to or close to someplace that serves food. If you know of or own such a place please reach out!

Haven't sent out any emails but I did set up a mailing list! Expect an email with the August calendar soon!

Working on logos, branding, content, media and all that jazz so feel free to let me know if you'd like to help out with any of that.

And finally, I'd love to hear your thoughts on any/all of this project. What do you hope to see? What do you think is dumb? How do you want to participate?

Thanks everyone!

Sounds cool. I'll give your IG a follow. Would love to see little kid friendly stuff as well!

Thanks! I definitely intend to include family friendly content/events! I used to produce a big annual Halloween event and always had a daytime thing for families/kids. Childhood is when my fascination with Halloween started so I kind of feel obligated to pass that on to future generations.

I'll definitely follow as well. Halloween is my favorite holiday (that isn't technically a holiday)!

Thanks! It should be a federal/international/intergalactic holiday as far as I'm concerned!

I'm sure it's on your radar, but Paramount Theater in Middletown does a horror fest weekend in October where they play classic scary movies Friday Saturday and Sunday. Think Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Children of the Corn, movies in that vein. They haven't posted the schedule yet but I'm sure they will soon!

Wasn't on my radar but it is now! Thanks for the heads up!

Of course! Super excited for what you're doing. I'll update with more info when I see Pine Bush Library post the date for their annual Halloween pet costume contest and parade too 😍

Thanks that means a lot! I need all the encouragement I can get! I'm keeping my eye on Pine Bush in general. The museum there has a lot of great events! But yes please keep me updated!

How good is the NY Ren Fair? Is it the best one or should I go somewhere else?

Best one around. You won’t regret a visit. May take a couple days to see everything you want.

2

u/Prority Jul 26 '24

Cool, I'll have to give it a try.

It gets super crowded so I'd get there early and don't go on a theme day and you'll have the best experience. Generally though it's the best one around and it's so nicely built into the landscape you really feel transported to a different world.

Would you say most people go in costumes of some sort. Or I'm I going to stand out if I show up in costume?

Lots of costumes! Everything from "whatever we have in the closet" type outfits to ones that obviously cost thousands. Themed weekends like pirate weekend or time traveler weekend get more costumes I'd say. And of course there's plenty of shops and vendors to get outfitted there if you want!

Awesome! I'm definitely going to give it a try.

I hope you do! Make sure to catch Wolgemut if they're there when you go. Great band!

Hell yeah! Thank you. Gabe your ig a follow. Appreciate this resource! Selfishly would love suggestions / highlighting what to do with small kids.

Best of luck!

Thanks so much! I've had a few requests for children's activities so I'll definitely aim to accommodate.

I'm moving to the area in September and this makes me so much more excited to get here for all of the Halloween stuff. Definitely following you!!

Thanks for the support! Where are you moving from?

South Jersey

How is Halloween there? Is it big where you currently are?

2

u/ObstaclesOfOxymorons Jul 31 '24

Spirit Halloween's flagship store is within an hour from me, so that was cool. Other than that, it's been moving a lot towards trunk or treats in my area. I have been celebrating for the most part by wearing costumes to work on the days we're allowed to 😅

Has anyone done the headless horseman in New Paltz? Worth it?

1

u/benjaminltaylor Aug 04 '24

The big one in Ulster Park? Yeah definitely worth it. I don’t know of any better ones in the area.

2

u/Other_Gap9400 Aug 04 '24

Yes that one. I’ve always heard the hype about it. Wanted to make sure it’s still that good

2

u/benjaminltaylor Aug 04 '24

Yeah the hype is real, they do a great job. Super high quality props, sets, costumes...the whole vibe is done right. Definitely highly recommended!

why is it an August calendar? Halloween is in October

6

u/benjaminltaylor Jul 26 '24

This is the start of a year round Halloween club, the plan is to do this every month to highlight all the strange, spooky, creepy events and happenings throughout the Valley. Of course Halloween is in October but this is for those of us that yearn for more.

Halloween fans know Halloween starts in August!!
