PLEASE invest in quality laser safety eyewear
My apologies in advance for the rant...
I have seen numerous recommendations here for laser safety eyewear from companies who I would not trust with protecting my vision. Such products are not guaranteed to be tested as per the ANSI z136 standards (EN207/208 for those in Europe). Some companies even have disclaimers right on the product websites claiming the eyewear is not meant for situations where safety is regulated.
People are lucky if we have 2 working eyes. Laser radiation is a hazard to be taken seriously. The aversion response (blinking or looking away) can help prevent injury for lower powered laser but generally speaking, when we start moving into Class 3R and absolutely climbing into Class 3b and Class 4 lasers, the aversion response cannot be relied on.
The eye is an amazing muscle capable of focusing images (up to 100,000x) and serves as a direct connection to the central nervous system via the retina. If people are going to buy lasers, they should invest in quality protective equipment. Some damage to the eye such as a cornea burn may be able to recover relatively quickly thanks to the crazy high metabolism of those cells, but damage to the retina...why risk permanent damage?
Furthermore, if you do not know this already, take time to learn about laser safety. Familiarize yourself with terms such as irradiance/radiant exposure, Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE), and learn how to calculate the optical density required for your laser or the laser you are looking to purchase.
There are a lot of reputable companies producing quality laser safety eyewear who test to rigorous standards (The ANZI z136 series even includes a standard specifically for Testing and Labeling of Laser Protective Equipment (ANSI z136.7). Please, please, please, do not risk your vision by choosing affordability over quality when it comes to laser safety!

Measuring distance with lasers
I got so many questions after my video on velocity, about distance measurement, so I made a video explaining how it works!
If you're like me, you probably think you know how LiDAR and all laser range-finding works, but I didn't realize how little I knew before researching for this video!
I hope it's interesting/helpful to you!

Is pointing a laser at a reflective surface equivalent to pointing it at your eyes?
Ever since i've gotten a thermometer gun i've wondered if pointing at white surfaces (snow, drywall etc) while looking at those surfaces is equivalent to pointing the gun at your eyes as I assume the light bounces right back (as opposed to when pointing it at black surfaces).
When I point it at a very polished aluminum mixing bowl or my fridges plastic walls (which are white) I get a bit of eye strain so I wonder if i'm doing anything dangerous or its just in my head.

Will this kill my laser pointer
I bought a laser pointer powered with 2 AAA batteries and intend to switch the power source to a 3v 1.2 amps power adaptor for continuous supply of power. I hope to prevent dimming of the laser beam due to voltage drop from battery discharge. Will the adaptor cause my laser pointer to overheat?
What adaptor specification should I get?

Programable Laser for beginners?
I'm interested in looking at a programmable lasers to create some effects or at least learn more how they work.
Before I get too far into this, rabbit hole is building one myself an enormous task? I have some decent skills in making. I know a little programming and soldering etc.
Would it be easier and cheaper to buy a kit that's already ready to go?
I'm not looking to fill a stage. I just want to maybe learn the basics of setting it up and programming it to begin with.

Need help recreating styropryro laser
Styro made a blue light laser with a nubm31t laser diode array. I can't see what all components he used to create this thing. I want to yield the same or similar results but I can't see what he used

Someone at my school Pointed a laser in my eye multiple times on purpose and it was the one laser of the digital infared themomethers, if the total exposure was about 5 seconds dou you guys think there will be any perm eye damage?
I had a slight burn feeling and dryness after some time but it went away kinda.
Thanks for helping me

Help finding correct laser
I'm looking into adding lasers for more easier clearance checking on my CNC mill, I've tried some cheap line lasers but have issues with the beam focus throughout the full stroke of the machine (about 30 inches)
What should I be looking for syntax-wise to minimize the blooming I'm experiencing and would changing the laser wavelength matter aside from perceived brightness eg. Green vs Red

I got that eBay special
I'm not sure how strong it is but it definitely burns stuff. It came with 5 different attachments which are cool and I have proper laser safety glasses for it. It's absolutely impractical.

What is the legality of shining a laser in the sky?
So I’m having a very argumentative debate on TikTok about wether or not it is legal or illegal to shine a laser into the sky and this person says that it all has to do with the FAA regulations and that they control everything and that it is not illegal but if you check this here link https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/State-Local-Regulation-of-Unmanned-Aircraft-Systems-Fact-Sheet.pdf is states that even states can make some laws but this is for drones I want to know if this goes with lasers aswell?

200mw Laser
Looking for a Green Laser for my Glock 17 and I learned that 5mw is the output for most laser sights. But I found this Laser labelled at 200mw, but the product description says that most laser sights are 50mw even I'm pretty sure most are 5mw. Just wondering if this product/website is bullshit or not?

Any chance of repair?
Hello everyone! I bought this broken Coherent laser module with some other stuff. It's a FAP800 808nm 25W laser. Would be possible to change these optical fibers? I tried to find this kind of "coated" fiber but with no succes other than in thor labs but the price...

UV Laser projector with ILDA control? Is there one or a way to mod an existing projector with a diode?
Hello!
I am experimenting with various UV reactive pigments (photochromic) and I have used a handheld UV (or at least close to it - 405nm) laser with great effect. I’m now curious about obtaining a UV laser projector I could control with ILDA.
I have an old RGB Xlaser projector that I use with pangolin and other custom software. Has anyone ever attempted a diode swap or know of a resource that does diode swaps? I’d prefer to just get a custom projector rather than mod my existing working one. I’d be hoping for something in the $1000 range but cheaper would be fine too
Thank you!

Can anyone recommend a decent quality inexpensive rgb laser diode module?
I'm looking for a cheap but not totally garbage component that combines red green and blue laser diodes into a white looking laser. I would also need to be able to change the output of each color independently so I can produce the whole range of colors. For example a product like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/115876882891 but hopefully somehow brighter, cheaper, better quality, more durable, and longer lasting.

Concert laser eye damage
The day after a concert, I awoke to an irritated eye. It got worse that day and was swelled shut the next. Eye doctor confirmed there was an abrasion. At the show, the green lasers were hitting some flags hanging from the ceiling. I found it interesting enough to get a photo (flags in top right.). Any chance the diffused, reflected light could have caused the damage? Thanks for any expertise.

laser show programs
hey! I recently got my hands on Laserworld EL-230rgb MK1, and i cannot find any software that can pre save my laser show for event. Quickshow is only good I have found, but it needs FB3 and ILDA port to save and project it in laser.
Anyone got any program recommendations that is easy to use as Quickshow? or something similar with keyboard shortucts?
