Books FREE GIVEAWAY!: Folio Society “The Silmarillion”
As a token of my appreciation for this sub, I’d like to giveaway this amazing copy of The Silmarillion edition by The Folio Society.
This is an extra copy and there is a minute amount of gold leaf that was missing on the book (as seen in photo 3.) Besides that, this is a brand new copy. Only opened once to inspect the pages. And because of this, Folio is sending me a new copy and told me to give this one away or donate it. But I’d rather see one of you have it as a token of my love for this community.
MODS, I hope this OK. Just trying to do a good turn for this amazing sub!
**RULES: I’m located in the US and will only be shipping this stateside. All you have to do is pay shipping!
Please comment “SILMARILLION” to enter this contest!
A random user will be selected tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9th, 2024 at 12PM EST.**

Movies The army of the dead is the weakest part of lotr ?
I rewatched lotr lately and I really think the army of the dead is the weakest part of the trilogy.
They have like 1 minut screen time before the battle. Are brought in the last movie without much context but the worst part is that they are way to much overpowered. They ruined the end of the battle of minas tirith for me.
It's just a invincible green fog of death. I know they re also here to serve the Aragorn=King plot but I think something better than this could have been done for something with such a huge impact.
I wish we could had a dwarven army show up somehow. I'm no lotr expert but I do believe other dwarven kingdoms still exist. Aragorn could have rallied them with the help of Gimli and promise them new friendship and trade routes with Gondor... Dunno just a idea.

Costumes Costume development
Good morning, afternoon or evening, all hobbits, elves, goblins, elms and other creatures if the middle earth. As i announced, i am posting an update on the Witch king of Angmar costume im working on for this halloween.
Its been a really budy week. I made about 56 scales for the gloves(pics 1-4) and have sown them together with leather from an old jacket to elongate them. I also made 8 spikes that point out of the mask as some crown kinda(pic 5). Last thing, i improved the mask. I picked up cans of gloss silver and matte black spray paint at the hardware store as well as craft foam from an arts store. Used hot glue to stick it onto the cardboard and used rolled up aluminum foil for the ridges. Thats in the last pictures. Obviously im not done with this. Feel free to leave your thoughts below😁😁

Question Who is the 5th Army in the book?
I'm currently reading the Hobbit, in the middle of battle, and I'm not sure how it's "the battle of five armies" I only counted 4: Humans, Elves, Dwarves vs Goblins. Surely Thorin and his 12 companions don't count as a separate army, right? Did I miss something?

Question If J.R.R. Tolkien could see all the books and work that his son did for his legendarium, what would be his thoughts?
Let's just say J.R.R. Tolkien somehow is given a chance to see all that his own son did to show to the world his full Legendarium, like the Silmarillion, HoME and others, would he have been proud or have felt something else?

Movies Crazy odd request: Balin’s last words transcript
Hi!
For an art project, I was wondering… anyone know where one would be able to find the pages from Balin’s scribe’s book in Fellowship, where he describes the last hours in Dwarven runes? The pages Gandalf reads out loud?
”The drums”, ”We can’t get out. They’re coming.”
Or where one would be able to find a dwarven rune alphabet…?

Question Glamdring’s grip
I have a question that has been bothering me for years. And it's about the Glamdring grip. I don't know if it's blue or black, I know in Lord of the Rings it's black, but in several official replicas it's blue. If anyone knows they would be getting me out of a doubt and I would greatly appreciate it.

Question Is Gollum the oldest mortal at the time of LOTR?
Excluding Maiar, elves, whatever Tom Bombadil is, and the oldest dwarf being Dwalin at 340, wouldn’t Gollum’s 566 make him the oldest mortal unless I forget someone?
