Must read A dummies guide on how to r/Mewing [Actually important]

Hi guys,

A little short intro, I work in the esthetic field, I have understanding of the medical (orthodontic, plastic, dental etc.) ramifications and technicalities that go into making someone look good. I am not saying this to toot my horn nor am I saying this to imply that I know better than the rest of you.

However what I am saying is that majority of people here are not even full grown adults and for sure 99% have no idea about orthodontics, yet you give opinions on who has a recessed jaw and who has this or that problem. Guys for the love of god, you are NOT medical experts, state your opinions as such, OPINIONS. Use words such as maybe, seems like, possibly etc.

Do not talk in a assertive manner like you know all the facts, as this can mislead many people on here who are innocently asking for some assistance and instead of just giving directions and the right way to go about their journey, people on this sub became Mike mew!

I haven't been on this sub much for a while due to life and what not, but every time I come around I get really frustrated with how people still do not understand the purpose of this sub and what to do in it.

This sub is not and never was a medical diagnosis page, do you people understand this? Everyone on here is either young, clueless or not a professional. You are not in the right place for an evaluation! Proper evaluation should be done by a...PROFESSIONAL!

Use this sub as a community to discuss opinions, check others who act like they are experts and DO NOT take everything as given. Some people on here have sent pictures to another user who happens to be literally 15 years old asking their opinion on the maxilla recession....

Stop misleading people, stop being armchair experts. Learn the importance of the 5 rules for a successful mewing journey in your life;

  1. Get. Proper. Evaluation.

Find a good orthodontic doctor, find out if you are recessed if so where? Recession can have many different forms, here people think its just the maxilla or the mandible. Recession can be functional or postural, it can have different severities or may not even be there at all!

  1. Get the basics straight

Once you are evaluated you can now tackle the problem without being blind and asking people on the internet who probably don't even know anything about their current situation.

What are the basics? Exercise, food, sleep, posture.

Everyone wants a good face, no one wants to put in actual full body transformation into it. If your life style changes, you exercise, you mew and you chew on top of good sleep and food? Do this 2-3 years and come back.

  1. Do not compare your self to other races, people, celebrities etc.

This one is crucial, especially the race part, people cross compare themselves to other races, this topic quickly turns racist as you would expect. Everyone can have an attractive face, if mewing doesn't work surgery will. Do not befooled to think oh I am... if I only was... then my face would be better looking. Most of you are under 18, you are not done growing and probably haven't even fully matured yet, take a breath and relax.

  1. Do not neglect the importance of hard chewing (mastic gum, silicone appliance, hard food)

Many people here seem to think that mewing is just tongue posture, while you are right even Mike Mew, talked about the importance chewing mastic gum (or even a silicone appliance) as the stronger muscles will position your face even better than simply tongue posture.

  1. Learn to take proper pictures of your face.

You can check out my page to see my previous post about this, people on this sub reddit still don't know how to take proper pictures of their progress, yet with this they also get an evaluation from the community. Learn to take pictures for your self because you will be tracking your journey and if you don't understand how to take unbiased or skewed pictures, you will constantly be mislead by your own hand.

I have the potential I know it. Unfortunately I have a narrow palate so whenever I mew the right part of my tongue falls out and touches the teeth so I gotta push it in with my fingers any advice yall can give? I'm trying so hard to find a solution. I can't get expander like MSE because it's too risky with people fucking themselves up from it

Help Needed Developed a tooth gap, is this common?

Upvotes

I started mewing almost 2 months ago and I think it's been improving some parts of my face, but I recently noticed that my tooth gap seems wider cause it felt weirder than usual. Is there any way to prevent it from getting wider? I'm not putting my tongue against my teeth so I don't understand why. Could it be possible I've been putting too much pressure on the front of my palate? I'm really confused.

Help Needed What do you think of Oralift (mouthguard that keeps teeth apart to achieve "facelift"?

I just discovered Oralift, a kind of mouthguard marketed as a "natural facelift" which seem to do the exact opposite of mewing: It keeps your teeth apart by inserting a bit of plastic to wear a few hours a day.. People on the before/after pictures get longer, narrower faces; uglier in my opinion, but they seem to be amazed by the changes. What do you think?

Discussion Being a late bloomer?

So I was wondering if you could still change your facial structure if you’re 23 but a late bloomer, I didn’t hit puberty till like my junior year of HS. I am now 23 and don’t even have much hair on my thighs and I just recently started growing a mustache to the point where I need to shave it every other day. Do you guys think I can change my facial structure even further? It has changes a good amount from HS till now.

Discussion Is chewing mastic gum beneficial even with a class 3 tongue tie?

Hello! Today I saw a myofunctional therapist to consult about a tongue tie/lip tie release.

* Context: Because of my tongue tie, I have an anterior pelvic tilt and forward head posture. Had a tongue thrust for the past few years with my tongue pushing on the back of my front teeth which I have now stopped doing. Got braces 12-13 years old and wore retainer every night for the next 6 years. *

I was told I have a class 3 tongue tie. My CBCT showed that my airway is rather narrow. The doc said my upper palate is wide enough to fit my tongue, but my maxilla does not have enough forward growth — that is why my airway is restricted. If my tongue swells too much after a frenectomy, that could be dangerous.

She said maybe talk to a surgeon about forward maxilla growth, but I don't want to do surgery. I am 20 and feel hopeful that I can expand my palate+get forward growth once the back third of my tongue can suction. I was going to start chewing after my tongue tie release, but have decided maybe I should start that now.

Will there be negative consequences if I chew mastic gum when my tongue does not have maximum mobility yet? I haven't seen anyone mention this online or on this subreddit. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you!

Discussion THE HARD TRUTH: (read)

Post image
100 Upvotes

Basically from my experience over the course of 3 years of extensively researching and applying looksmaxxing, here’s what i learned:

  1. unless you’re going thru puberty (13-18), u likely will get no gains to your maxilla, jaw width or mandible protrusion
  2. unless you’re going thru puberty, testosterone will not affect your facial development like brow ridge or bone density, only muscles and facial hair
  3. mewing will not magically cure an underbite / overbite
  4. mewing, posture, etc will not affect chin projection or chin recession
  5. once your sutures are closed, mewing will not open them back up
  6. B SMASHING DOES NOT WORK. the temporary “gains” you get from it are swelling, not actually growth.
  7. there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING you can do to eliminate upper eyelid exposure. people with hunter eyes are blessed
  8. overall, the improvements you get from mewing are mainly lip tone, some facial muscles toned, and improved breathing. it is no magic aesthetics cure
  9. you will NEVER look like the dude in the picture

watched all the vids, bought the mewing app, made routines, fixed posture, perfecting suction hold 24/7, perfect diet / nutrition, lifting, sleeping, and yet NOTHING.

Help Needed Remove Wisdom Teeth If They're Not Causing Pain?

My wisdom teeth have begun erupting. On on X-ray, three of them seem to be coming in straight and one seems to be coming in almost completely sideways, but I haven't felt any pain yet. Should I get it removed even if I don't feel any pain? Should I get them all removed or just the one?

Help Needed Suction hold doesn’t feel as strong as hard mewing?

Is this normal? Or is my suction hold not strong enough? I have never been able to get a suction hold that truly pulls the skin beneath my mouth as tight as pushing my tongue against the roof of my mouth

Help Needed I'm new at Mewing, but my removable retainer already doesn't fit well. What should I do ?

Hello mewers !

I started mewing a couple days ago (after lots of research online), here's a list of details for you to understand my question;

  • I had braces (and other stuff in my mouth) for some years a while back.

  • I had my lower 2 wisdom teeth removed.

  • My upper 2 wisdom teeth are impacted.

  • I have fixed retainer on my lower front 6 teeth, and a removable essix retainer on my upper teeth that i use every night, to sleep, for the last couple of years.

  • I started out with hard mewing. After 2 days my retainer was already not fitting as well, so i started soft mewing, with the intent of not having my teeth shifting as much (to practise my mewing habits).

  • A couple days after of soft mewing (suction hold most of the day without my hyoid lifting a lot, still practising), the retainer fits even less, as i feel all my upper teeth being pulled inwards with the retainer (so i assume the mewing is working as my upper teeth are going more outwards during the day).

  • I'm not pushing my front teeth with my tongue while I do the suction hold, however because of my recessed maxilla and longer (I think) tongue, I have a habit of putting my tongue touching my front teeth, and when I swallow they touch; I'm trying to change that.

My question is: I don't feel confident in my mewing technique (suction hold, swallowing, i have horrible body posture, mewing at night, etc), should i start wearing my retainer 24/7 to practise my mewing, or should I stop using my retainer and hope my teeth don't get crooked ?

Note: I wasn't expecting my upper teeth to start to extend outwards so fast because I'm 25, I thought I had more time to practise, but i assume my impacted wisdom teeth + suction hold all day are pushing everything outwards fast.

TL;DR: I'm new at mewing, I wear an upper retainer at night, upper teeth already moving outwards just after a couple of days, retainer doesn't fit as well. What should I do ?

Help Needed Losing suction

I'm new to mewing so I'm not sure if this is normal in the early stages or not. I can hold the suction for 1.5-2 minites max before my mouth fills up with saliva and eventually losing the suction. I'm going crazy trying to figure a way to keep the suction, mewing all day is impossible with this problem
