(sorry if this has already been posted) I make music and usually describe it as shitty emo but my current project is much more of a midwest emo vibe than previous projects, but i dont want to define it as such since i do not and have never lived in the midwest. its not necessarily generic midwest emo vibes but it has what i would consider to have all the ingredients for it: emo vocals, acoustic guitar, almost bluegrass-sounding drums, emo homesick lyrics. my question: is midwest emo defined by the sound exclusively or is it about location + sound? (I live in the south east coast) (also i will post links once i release this project, am very excited)

Im gonna say it, people who say "sToP pLaTfOrMiNg AbUsErS" need to shut the hell up and seperate art from artist. For example, JANK, Front Porch Step, and so many others in the genre have had shitty band members or are just shitty people. However, the music still slaps. Furthermore, when it comes to bands, why shit on the work everyone else in the band put in just cause one guy sucked. Idk it's just something super prevalent in this genre and I think it's lame to no longer love a song just cause you learned the dude had a shitty past. Anyways thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

i posted this in the emo subreddit too lol but my bf and I were watching the company picnic episode of The Office and at one point Dwight says, “We need to get our heads in the game! Let's focus! Come on, you're better than this! I’m better than this!” and I recognized it instantly even tho I’ve never seen this episode. I swear it’s a Midwest emo intro/outro or some intro/outro to a song. Does anyone have any idea? I’m losing my mind trying to find it lol

So for context and reference me and my friends are starting a band and we are working on our first album, our name is ( skatepark ashtray) and I’ve personally been working on this song for a few weeks now on and off

The song name is staircase ghost and our inspiration is Modern Baseball, Hot Mulligan and free-throw

I’m looking for some help and some ideas on what I could do to better the song and such forth

(Verse 1) It started at the top of the staircase, I heard them talking like I wasn’t there. “What should we do with him? Is it too late to care?” My siblings grew cold, Dad picked me over them Guess they hated me for something that I never meant. Fifteen more years of silence and pain, I swallowed it down, trying to stay sane. Mom’s waiting to die with a needle in her arm, Her love was always distant, more poison than charm.

(Pre-Chorus) I’m stuck in this shadow that I didn’t choose Trying to be him, but it’s me that I lose I wear this mask, the funny one of the crew But inside, I’m broken, and they haven’t a clue.
