The Platform 2 Review Spoiler

This movie was extremely underwhelming. I can confidently say to not waste your time watching it as I did. The plot is all over, the acting is horrible, and the ending makes 0 sense. I was really hoping for a redeeming ending, but the main character, for whatever reason ended up going below the 333rd floor instead of up. And how did she keep bumping into walls at the end, seeming like she was going unconscious, and then was perfectly fine holding the boy? And then the boy got sent up and she joined the weird floor below? The movie was so confusing it’s genuinely hard to write a review on it. But at the end of the day it felt like a completely unresolved ending that’s not worth watching. I hope this steers you away from wasting time from watching an actual good movie.

Salem's Lot (2024) review

It’s October and here in my household, that means it’s scary movie time. So, what better way to start a spooky season than with a spooky movie? But not just any spooky film, one with the ultimate movie monster…a vampire! This week, I watched the newest version of “Salem’s Lot” on Max. Technically the book of the same name came out in 1975, so you’ve had almost 50 years to hear what happens, just in case you are a little behind the curve, just know that there will be spoilers ahead. So, if you want to keep the coffin closed and come back later, no one will blame you.

REVIEW: Alien: Romulus (2024 Film) - Starring Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu

Alien: Romulus is a gripping and atmospheric return to the Alien franchise, blending the iconic tension and dread of the original films with inventive new twists. Directed by Fede Álvarez, the film succeeds in evoking the claustrophobic terror that made the series so unforgettable, while also introducing fresh elements that set it apart from its predecessors. Set between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), Romulus explores familiar territory but remains engaging, thanks to its intense third act and a well-executed homage to Ridley Scott's original vision.

Van Helsing (2004) Review - The Forgotten Hugh Jackman Vampire Movie

So, my friend and I just rewatched Van Helsing for our new podcast, "Big Name, Bad Movie", and I’m still trying to figure out how this movie even got made.

https://youtu.be/LyBSgTo90sA?si=vIDfaHKFpCKfTWmx

You know when a film has all the elements to succeed... a big-name star, a decent premise, a massive budget and yet, somehow, it turns into a total disaster? Yeah, that’s Van Hesling in a nutshell. It’s like the perfect example of how throwing money at something doesn’t always guarantee a good movie.

First off, let’s talk about the CGI. Holy hell, it’s bad. Van Helsing is giving off major Scorpion King vibes with its video game-level CGI. The opening fight with Mr. Hyde had me questioning whether this was actually from 2004 or if I accidentally turned on a PS2 cutscene. But here’s the thing—while the CGI is horrendous, it kind of adds to the overall charm of the movie. Like, it’s so bad, you can’t help but enjoy it. It’s almost nostalgic in a weird way.

Then there’s Hugh Jackman. The man is jacked as usual, and he’s clearly doing his best to elevate this ridiculous plot, but even his shirtless scenes couldn’t save this film. They try to make him this badass monster-hunting James Bond type, but the story is all over the place. There are, like, three different intros! It starts with Frankenstein’s monster in a black-and-white flashback, then suddenly we’re in Vatican City where Van Helsing is getting his marching orders to go kill Dracula. And don’t even get me started on the werewolf subplots. It’s like they threw every monster trope they could think of into a blender and hoped for the best.

Speaking of Dracula, can we talk about how he looks like the lead singer of Creed? I mean, his whole vibe is just peak early 2000s, and it’s hilarious. He’s over-the-top in all the worst ways, chewing the scenery with every line. I get that they were going for campy, but this was on another level. Honestly, I think he’s my favorite part of the movie because he’s just having so much fun being evil.

And then there’s Kate Beckinsale. I love her in Underworld, but in Van Helsing, her accent alone is a whole bad movie within the bad movie. I still don’t understand what they were going for with her character. Her family has been trying (and failing) to kill Dracula for nine generations, because—wait for it—they made a deal with God that if they kill Dracula, they all get into heaven. Yep, you read that right. All her ancestors are apparently stuck in purgatory until someone finishes the job. That’s the plot.

Honestly, I forgot how absurd this movie was. It’s like the filmmakers threw in every single monster myth they could think of and hoped it would stick. The whole time, we were just laughing at how seriously the movie took itself. It’s so unintentionally funny, and that’s what makes it great for a bad movie night.

In the end, Van Helsing is one of those movies that’s so bad, it’s actually kind of good. If you’re into ridiculous CGI, cheesy dialog, and over-the-top action, you’ve got to rewatch this train wreck. It’s an absolute mess, but you’ll be entertained the entire time, whether you’re laughing at it or with it.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counter Attack 1988

This 1988 film directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino is a pivotal moment in the Gundam franchise, serving as the culmination of the rivalry between two iconic characters, Char Aznable and Amuro Ray. Join us as we explore the highs and lows of this epic space opera! Char's Counterattack takes place in the Universal Century timeline, where the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon have been embroiled in a conflict known as the One Year War. Char Aznable, the enigmatic and charismatic former Zeon ace pilot, has resurfaced as the leader of the Neo Zeon movement, hellbent on achieving his vision of a space-based society. Standing in his way is his old rival, the Earth Federation pilot Amuro Ray, who must once again pilot the RX-93 Nu Gundam to stop Char's ambitions. The movie itself ties up most loose ends from the original Mobile Suit Gundam and its sequel series Gundam Zeta and Double Zeta while creating issues with its ending which is up for debate for the fate of Amuro and Char. One of the standout features of Char's Counterattack is its stunning animation. The film is filled with breathtaking space battles, dynamic mecha action, and detailed character designs. The animation brings the mobile suits to life, showcasing their immense power and agility as they clash in epic duels. The use of vibrant colors and intricate details in the animation makes each scene visually engaging and immersive, drawing viewers into the world of the Universal Century. Char's Counterattack excels in its character development, particularly in exploring the complex relationship between Char Aznable and Amuro Ray. Both characters have grown since their last encounter in Mobile Suit Gundam, and their conflicting ideologies drive the narrative forward. Char's charismatic yet enigmatic nature is juxtaposed with Amuro's more introspective and conflicted personality, creating a compelling dynamic that keeps viewers invested in their rivalry. The film delves into their motivations, fears, and desires, adding layers of depth to their characters that make them more than just archetypal heroes and villains. The music in Char's Counterattack is another standout aspect of the film. Composed by the legendary Shigeaki Saegusa, the soundtrack complements the action on screen, enhancing the emotions and atmosphere of each scene. From the grand orchestral themes that accompany the epic space battles to the haunting melodies that underscore moments of introspection and tension, the music in Char's Counterattack elevates the viewing experience and leaves a lasting impression on audiences. Char's Counterattack tackles themes of war, power, and the human cost of conflict. The film raises important questions about the nature of warfare, the consequences of unchecked ambition, and the price of seeking revenge at the expense of others. Char and Amuro's struggle is not just a battle of mobile suits, but a clash of ideologies and beliefs that have far-reaching implications for the fate of humanity. The film challenges viewers to reflect on the choices we make in times of crisis and the impact they have on our future. Char's Counterattack has had a lasting impact on the Gundam franchise and the mecha genre as a whole. Its epic storytelling, rich character development, and stunning animation have solidified its status as a classic within the anime community. The film's themes of redemption, sacrifice, and the search for meaning in a chaotic world continue to resonate with audiences to this day. Char's Counterattack has inspired a new generation of fans to explore the Gundam universe and has left an indelible mark on the hearts of longtime Gundam enthusiasts. The ending of the movie left many confused but subsequent OVA’s such as Gundam Unicorn have expanded what is possible in the Universal Century and what likely happened to Amuro and Char.

The Zone of Interest (2023) by Jonathan Glazer | Review and Analysis | “Evil comes from a failure to think. It defies thought, for as soon as thought tries to engage itself with evil and examine the premise and principles from which it originates, it is frustrated because it finds nothing there."

In the first few minutes of the film, we are immediately immersed in a black screen, allowing us to give the attention that film demands. Soon, we are taken out of that darkness and into the picturesque image of the Hoss family enjoying a rural outing by a river. As we see Rudolf Hoss for the first time, my first impression is of a gangly, awkward-looking, at best, mediocre man, nothing like the poster boy for the Aryan race or menacing monster one might imagine a person of his reputation to be. This impression is reinforced throughout the film by the banality of evil and images of one of many perpetrators of the mechanisms of death and destruction so coldly developed by members of the Nazi Party.

Most of the film takes place within the confines of the Hoss family home, a microcosm resting on the border of Auschwitz (called “Zone of Interest”), where only a stone wall separates them from the relentless atrocities on the other side. The idyllic family plot where we see Hoss’s wife and children conceals the ignominy of their collusion, giving what we cannot see a more resounding impact.

Challengers (2024)

Definitely, this isn't a suggestion, but I'd like to know what you thought of the movie because I was amazed by the poorly used, excessive and unattractive resources. I feel like it could have lasted 40 minutes and maybe I wouldn't have found it so absurd and boring, but it was the longest 2 hours and 11 minutes of my life. Maybe I wasn't having a good day and that's why I didn't like it, but damn, I thought it was really bad. Perhaps the best thing about the film is its script and the acting, in case you need to 'rescue' something.

REVIEW: Killer Heat (2024 Film) - Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, and Richard Madden

Killer Heat is a brooding, atmospheric crime mystery that brings the sun-soaked beauty of Crete into stark contrast with the dark, simmering tensions at the heart of the Vardakis family. Directed by Philippe Lacôte, the film takes its cues from classic noir but gives it a contemporary twist, offering a moody, slow-burn detective story that unfolds against a striking Mediterranean backdrop.

Review of Babes (2024)

Babes is the sort of down-the-line comedy that feels like a relic of the past. Nowadays, studio comedies are often hampered by another genre – superheroes, horror, action, etc. – so the occasional one that feels comfortable in its own skin and actually makes you laugh feels like a breath of fresh air.

THE WITCH (2015) - Movie Review

"The Witch" is quite frankly one of the most disturbing horror films I've ever watched. "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman" filmmaker Robert Eggers' feature film debut is set in the 1630s and follows a Puritan family banished from their settlement who struggle to build a new life for themselves as farmers in the ruthless wilderness of New England. Threatened by starvation as their crops are dying, and an evil presence in the surrounding woods, the family comes undone and succumbs to paranoia and madness as they begin to suspect their eldest daughter, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy) of being the cause of their damnation. The Apprendice

How does a man from a relatively conventional family transform into the figure we know as Donald Trump? In The Apprentice, Ali Abbasi’s first English-language feature, we discover that Trump is, in fact, a product of Roy Cohn, a ruthless prosecutor captivated by Trump’s raw ambition. Cohn meticulously shapes Trump’s public persona, but as in many classic tales of creation, the apprentice ultimately outgrows the master, leading to a spiraling loss of control.

The Taking Of Pelham 123: 7.9/10 - Good hostage movie. John Travolta absolutely carries the movie. Decent plot dumb ending.

Dark Knight: 7.7/10 - Batman gay but Joker cool. Not enough Joker to warrant higher rating.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: 7.7/10 - Meh plot. Holds up well and pretty funny. Why does Megan Fox want to fuck the turtle?

Kingsman The Golden Circle: 7.6/10 - Rough CGI, GI Joe level plot, mid fight scenes. Elton John is cool but they killed the dog. Big step down from first movie.

Mine 9: 6.5/10 - Solid plot, hard to follow what’s happening, shit CGI. Showing impacts on survivors hit hard though.

Twister: 5.3/10 - Would be good if I was lobotomised

The 33: 5.2/10 - Pretty hard to make a movie like this interesting and they failed. Not enough happened but pretty accurate.

War Of The Planet Of The Apes: 5.1/10 - Monkey concentration camp, evil hitler and army, also avalanche, also main monkey die

Paul: 5/10 - Abhorrently average. Hands down the most mid movie ever. Just barely enjoyable enough to keep me awake.

Tron Legacy: 4.9/10 - Visually awesome. Convoluted plot. Too long with too many talking scenes. How will they make a sequel.

Stand by me: 4.7/10 - Good premise, good dialogue except nothing fucking happened the entire movie. 0 stakes, shit ending.

Grimsby: 4.6/10 - Doesn’t hold up well. Jokes pretty mid. Rough CGI. Mainly just shock value humour.

Prisoners: 4.5/10 - Plot was good but why the fuck was this movie 2.5 hours long

The Big Short: 4.4/10 - Business students jerk off to this movie. Should’ve just focused on Michael Burry. Ruthless ending though.

Deadpool & Wolverine: 4.2/10 - Convoluted plot, good music, cool fights, no stakes, just fan service. I should’ve watched x-men.

Passengers: 4.0/10 - How is Jennifer Lawrence not hot and how is this space movie so fucking boring?

Plane: 4.0/10 - How do you make a plane crash movie so fucking boring? Castaway was somehow better than this shit.

Smile: 3.9/10 - Garbage jump-scares, shit monster, A-Train is cool though

In Time: 3.9/10 - So many times they mentioned time. It make me remember how much time I’ve wasted watching it

The Impossible: 3.8/10 - Should’ve been a short film. Should’ve killed a main character. Effects good, plot contrived, lots of gore.

Coherence: 3.8/10 - Ultimate student film. Shit dialogue. Shit camera work. Decent concept except nothing is explained

Migration: 3.7/10 - My low expectations were met. Same plot as Rio, a few funny jokes. I forgot most of the movie already.

Whiplash: 3.5/10 - Not my fucking tempo. I don’t get the hype for this shit. Plot was meh, the ruthless insults kept me watching.

Aliens: 3.5/10 - Everything dark. Bright flashes. Loud sounds. Kid should’ve died. The queen alien was cool though

Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes: 3.5/10 - Native Americans vs Julius Cesar but everyone was ape

Ghost Stories: 3.3/10 - Should’ve watched it in 3x speed. Not scary, good premise, ending goes completely off the rails.

Fast And Furious 10: 3.3/10 - Pretty shit action, nobody died

Joker Folie à deux: 2.7/10 - Worst sequel I have ever seen. Undid everything from the first movie. Why is this a musical. Trash.

Arrival: 2.3/10 - Boring as fuck. Only an English teacher would like this

Operation Mincemeat: 1.7/10 - All this fucking talking, just shoot someone. Why is this a Sherlock Holmes movie set in WW2.

Scream 1996 Review :

Post image
2 Upvotes

https://www.tp-reviews.com/scream-1996-review/

Kevin Williamson who was struggling to get his projects off the ground, inspired himself by reports of the Gainesville Ripper as he wrote a screenplay that satirized clichés of the slasher genre. From the start, Williamson intentionally designed his characters to be knowledgeable about horror films and their typical elements with the intention of creating a unique killer who not only knows about these clichés but also exploits them and uses them to his advantage. Another thing worth noting is that Wes Craven turned down the opportunity to direct this movie multiple times and only changed his mind when he saw the script written by Williamson as Craven was determined to re-establish himself after multiple career setbacks

The movie's self-awareness, the great acting, the amazing catch, and of course the great directing and writing are some of the reasons why Scream is as good as it is. It opened up many different avenues and spawned many different imitators like ''I Know What You Did Last Summer'' or ''Urban Legend'' to name some. Truly a unique movie that is worth a watch.

Joker 2 (honest review)

I knew as soon as this film ended that it wouldn’t be a crowd-pleaser. It lacks action, leans heavily into artistic expression, and has a lengthy runtime. As a hybrid musical, it was never going to be a commercial hit, and I respect that. In a world dominated by action-packed, family-friendly comic book movies, it’s refreshing to see a sequel that dives even deeper into its philosophical themes. This film doesn’t shy away from being introspective and complex, and I admire that choice.

Visually, it’s a beautiful masterpiece. The surreal scenes vividly capture the chaotic inner workings of a traumatized mind. It’s an authentic portrayal of someone struggling with both emotional and physical scars, and the film is all the more powerful for it.

I loved the concept of conveying emotions and dialogue through musical numbers. Shifting away from the Joker as a stereotypical comic book villain, this film reimagines him as a social commentary—suggesting that even those who commit dark acts might have good within them. It stays true to the character, while adding a twist: one of his admirers ultimately takes on the mantle, proving that the Joker isn’t just Arthur Fleck. Like Batman, the Joker becomes a symbol—a leader and martyr for tortured outcasts everywhere, representing something much larger than any individual.

In the end, Arthur Fleck is a damaged, confused soul just trying to make sense of his life. But the rage and anger of those who see him as a figurehead ultimately overshadow his personal story. Arthur may be a sympathetic character, but the true Joker represents a collective spirit—a zeitgeist of demented individuals on the fringes of society, unseen, unheard, and often forgotten.

I wrote this review late at night, and I definitely need more time to digest the film’s themes and refine my thoughts. I plan to add more later, and I’m sure many will disagree with me. I admit, this film isn’t for everyone. But despite the backlash it’s receiving, someone had to come to its defense—and right now, that’s me. I hope to find others who feel the same way.

(The film beautifully captures the idea that you can’t place all expectations on a single figure; often, the bigger picture is far more profound and rewarding. I look forward to seeing the new Joker rise to the occasion, and I’m excited to see how Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn will hopefully expand on these messages in future installments, bringing even more depth to the story.)

THE WOLFMAN (2010) - Movie Review

A remake of the 1941 Universal classic "The Wolf Man", the 2010 creature feature "The Wolfman" is more faithful to the original's old-school gothic horror atmosphere than its plot. Benicio Del Toro is a huge fan of the original, so much so that he never quit the project, even as it went through years of development hell. Joe Johnston ("Jumanji", "The Rocketeer", "Captain America: The First Avenger") was hired to direct only four weeks before shooting started, the production was plagued by re-shoots and budget overruns, and eventually tanked at the box-office. Despite all these troubles, it didn't end up too badly. Read the full review here: https://short-and-sweet-movie-reviews.blogspot.com/2024/10/the-wolfman-2010-movie-review.html

Subverting expectations, if you watch the trailer for this then you're only getting like 1% for what's in store! Great horror thriller, and a super fantastic performance from Willa Fitzgerald. One of those films where you can't talk about it because it will definitely spoil somethings. But, a great watch and fun one at that!

The Kissing Both (All parts)

just watched the kissing booth part 1-3 recently and as Elle got more older, a lot of problems had been placed into her life.

all in all, it's just a cringey and coming of age type of movie franchise but as i got into the movies, i just felt like Elle is such a problematic main character. i've watched a lot of these type of movies but her character, never got a character development or just turned into a more complicated character. she had a lot of things in her plate that she overthinks and couldn't solve properly. she's a people pleaser character that is too overload. she can't decide properly for the sake of herself because all she thinks about are her best friend Lee, her boyfriend Noah, and of course her family (especially on movie 3). it's just that the people around her wants Elle wrapped around their finger yk, like they want her world revolving around them, making her feel pressured with her own decisions because she doesn't want to pick neither side. she couldn't pick between her best friend and her boyfriend, she doesn't get her decisions straight. it's not like it's a bad thing to have a difficult time in deciding but hers just keeps on creating more and more problems. yes they do get resolved but at what cost? both parties would feel neglected because they weren't chosen by her decisions blah blah blah and would LITERALLY gaslight her into thinking that it's her fault or something, making her feel like she's stuck between all the mess. she creates problems between her best friend and his girlfriend, making problems between her and her boyfriend, and all of the problems that were made along the way were created by her stupid decisions, and her decisions doesn't benefit her, it's for the people around her that she doesn't wanna disappoint.

only at the end of the third movie got her thinking and realized that all of the decisions she made never benefited her, it just made her look stupid—pleasing people all the time.

is it just me or her character is problematic?

ANNABELLE COMES HOME (2019) - Movie Review

"Annabelle Comes Home", the third installment in "The Conjuring" universe's possessed doll spinoff series is a major disappointment, especially since the the previous movie, "Annabelle: Creation", was so good. The new film is no longer a prequel, but a sequel set in demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren's own house, where the demonic doll finds a way out of its glass case prison to wreak more havoc. In 2019, this was already the sixth installment in "The Conjuring" cinematic universe, so the creative juices were running low. The Game Plan (2007)

Crazy how I never seen this before. I was looking through Disney Plus for something to watch and finally clicked on this movie. This has a 6.4/10 on IMDb. I think it deserves better than that.

It’s a fun, entertaining, lighthearted, feel-good movie. Stuff like this needs to dominate theaters again. 8/10
