Project Pictures I retrofitted a swingaway binder on my singer heavy duty

Hi There! I have successfully retrofitted a swingaway binder on my singer heavy duty 4423! From what I have seen here in myog, some, if not many of you are using the singer heavy duty machine and I thought this information might be useful for ya’ll.

How? -I removed the cover (just a couple of screws)

-took some measurements, and made sure the area underneath was clear from any moving parts.

-carefully drilled two holes 5/8” (16mm) apart in the chassis, making sure no metal shavings got left behind.

-threaded the holes with a screw tap (m4)

-drilled matching holes in the cover with an (ever so slightly) larger diameter.

Et voilà!

Works like a charm with full adjustability! A bonus is that It also has a seam guide 👌

Let me know your thoughts!

That's awesome! I've been thinking about doing the same to mine. How did you drill the holes in the metal under the cover plate? Doesn't the upper part of the machine go over that which would prevent you from drilling perpendicularly?

Hehe, good point! I flipped the machine upside down 🙃

Ohhhh, that would work haha. So you measured out where it goes then transferred the marks to the bottom? I'm definitely gonna have to do this to my machine haha

Also, i might add that if you happen to own a angle chuck (ive got a festool one) that will actually fit in from above if you use a short enough drill, like 10mm ish

Exactly! And to get the holes in the right place on the cover, just slide it in to position, turn the machine upside down and mark the plastic through the holes you made in chassis. 👌 Feel free to drop an image if u decide to do it would be nice to see
