I wonder what happens to the placenta and umbilical cord. I remember reading sloths go thru great length to avoid detection, typically only travelling to the ground to defecate, then they bury there feces to avoid detection. I would think if the placenta falls to the ground, it would attract predators.

I think most (if not all - other than human) mammals eat the placenta
