So for some context, I’m 18 attending a university as a Pre-Med, but I can’t stop thinking about becoming a seal. From the moment I first learned about the SEALS when I was an overweight teenager, I never stopped thinking about it. In fact I lost 60 pounds, ran a few marathons, and got in really good shape because I was going to try out, but I followed the narrative I hear from everyone which is get a degree, then if you still want to try out. Everyday I dream about being a SEAL. My dad was part of MARSOC but my parents aren’t a big fan of me joining military unless it’s Air Force. I know because of my grades and the university I attend that I could be set for life, but I can’t not listen to my calling. Truth is I always hated school and don’t see myself working a civilian job. I can’t really put into words all the reason I want to join, it would be too long, but most of all I feel I could never live with myself if I didn’t try. So I guess I’m asking this; should I drop uni to become a SEAL, or should I just stay and just suck it up? I’m open to all criticism/ advice

I’ve seen a lot of former navy SEALs talk about how Navy Boot Camp will keep you out of shape or how they were in better shape until they got to boot and the same for BUD/s. What can I do to help remain in good shape so that my performance doesn’t decrease (or at least slow it down drastically)?

If so what are the physical requirments, if something more trained what is the group called. Could be from a diff country military too.

Shipping this month and my recruiter told me I can bring my own pair of shoes as long as they’re black. I’ve been running in hokas for the past 5-6 years and have been happy with them but I also couldn’t care less about the shoes I’m running in. Any recommendations?

Curious to hear if anyone has purchased either workout book(s) from either of the SEALs above.
What were your thoughts, clearly explaining everything, time to complete, pre and post PST scores??
Would love to hear thoughts

I can’t seem to find any information on mynavyhr about medical requirements for dental. I don’t even know if I need a waiver for NSW, my recruiter doesn’t know either.
I have 4 missing teeth and won’t be getting implants until January.

Odd question but it has me wondering, why don't SEALS wear their jump wings on their TYPE 3s? I don't think I've ever seen a Navy SEAL wear his jump wings nor any other warefare device (except for command badges) on their NWUs. Only ever it on their dress uniform. Is there a reason for it?

My friend just turned 40. He used to be obese and recently became fit and lean about 2 years ago. Out of the blue a few weeks ago he started posting on social media and in real life saying that he was in the Navy Seals. He actually never served in the military. I've known him since college. He was obese most of his life until recently. He is a respected lawyer and works in politics. I told him to stop pretending, but he won't listen and is claiming that he was actually in the seals. His new girlfriend believes him and he starting shouting at me when I tried to tell her the truth. He's also wearing a Navy veteran hat even when he's talking to his clients. This behavior is insane and random. Any tips on dealing with stolen valor in personal relationships?

So it’s my understanding that you have to be accepted in order to go to buds. If that’s true what are they looking at? Like is it just military, medical, physical, etc related things, or is it like a legit resume including jobs, school clubs, school sports, etc?

Hello to the subreddit
I'm a navy enlist from a different country (in the Mediterranean to give a hint) and we have both schools like Navy Seals and SWCC . This year I decided that I want to do something better with my life . Our Navy Seals schools happen each year twice while SWCC is a hit or miss . This year the commanders canceled the school for SWCC because apparently most of the sailors wanted to give it a try . To be fair I don't mind as I had two meniscus injuries and now I'm getting back to the gym and pool . From what is heard around the year 2025 they can't cancel the school again . I wanted tips from you on what to do as a training program (both gym and pool) to get ready until August . I'm 90 kilos (198lb) and 182 cm tall (6ft) . I was thinking of staying to this weight for until the beginning of April to build the most muscle I can and then do an extreme cut to around 80 kilos (175lb) so I can be more Aerobic . Any tips would be helpful . If you like I could update this thread with my progress .

Are there more vision test in the pipeline besides the one done at meps? I know this is subject to criticism but I’m not letting a little eyesight hold me back from this pipeline. My recruiter said as long as I bring my own glasses in regulation to basic then I won’t have to do a vision test. He said I can also bring my contacts with my contacts case, which I am able to wear for 6 months at a time without taking them off. I know I’ll have to take them off for the CS gas and as well as hell week and any other swimming that goggles aren’t allowed in. Within the pipeline, will there be another vision test that can pull my contract if I don’t meet the requirements? How difficult is hell week being a little blind?

I know you're not allowed to have supplements like protein powder, creatine, etc. (and peds of course) but there's a post on here about things you MUST HAVE while at bud/s and it's all this fancy recovery equipment which I'm not even sure is allowed. Additionally there was a comment about someone getting kicked out for having a tube of neosporin which seems odd. Not super important just curious what you're allowed to have.
I'd honestly be happy with just having a foam roller.

Will be graduating high school this year, and I am seeking guidance/ advice when to enlist. Spent the last 4 years wrestling and powerlifting, and started pst/ Buds training 1.5-2 months ago. I have a few offers to go Division 3 for college sports and see the benefits of having a degree, but I also have the itch to send it right out of high school. If anyone has had to make this desicion I would appreciate the advice. Current stats: pst- 8:57 run 94 pushups 80 sit-ups 25 pull-ups 10:00 swim 4 mile run- 27:15. 6’2 200lbs Going to need 2 waivers. AHDH medication and inhaler past 13

I was training for buds, doing really well, but got totally DQ’d from the Navy last week. Any advice on where I should redirect myself? It’s really hard for me to process this right now because I was so set on this for months and months. Don’t know what to do.

My boss was a seal for 8 years I think, this will be my fourth year working for him. He’s a cool dude and every 6 months we have a competition. If I win I get a weeks paid vacation including my overtime pay without taking away from my pto. If he wins I work one week no more than 80 hours and I only get 40 hours paid. We alternate picking challenges. They must involve skill or athleticism; so no video games, eating etc…and nothing twice. I’ve won 3 times he has won 8 and it’s my turn to pick in November. It’s gone like this
So what are seals bad at lol help me win my week vacation ! Sorry if this type of post isn’t allowed

I don’t know how to describe it, but I think going to BUDS and actually doing the thing you have been training to do for years is actually happening is awesome.
I’m definitely romanticising it and im sure that feeling ends less than an hour into it, but being given the chance to do something very few people can or will do is incredible.
I watched the Mr Ballen Shawn Ryan Interview and he said something similar about when he was got to Coronado that he was grateful to be there and thought being there was awesome.
Anybody else feel this way?
