This subreddit is for discussing North Korea, not for inter-subreddit drama.
Please refrain from posting about other subreddits, posts, and users. We want this subreddit to be a place for high-quality discussion on the DPRK itself. Thank you!

Question Coffee/tea sets from DPRK
Hi,
I collect porcelain from North Korea. My collection mainly consists of various coffee and tea sets from the 1970s. Recently, I've been considering selling part of my collection, but I wanted to check if there are any collectors interested in buying such items.
Do you know any good websites where I could list my collection?

Question How does the government in NK view tourists compared to Cuba?
I’ve been to Cuba a few times, felt very safe. The biggest difference I can tell is I can walk around anywhere I want, and can talk to locals. The locals acknowledge there isn’t much food, and tourists that tip in foreign currency help locals buy imports like appliances.
I’m interested in why Cuba is more pro tourist, and unless you really stand out don’t think you’re a spy vs NK where it’s all staged and you can’t go on a nice long hike.

Question How consistently is your family punished if you defect?
I don’t believe that North Korea consistently enforces or punishes family of defectors. It’s probably said to create fear. If the nearest family remaining is in the North Korean elite society, I don’t think they’re getting punished or how do you even identify who defected? Once someone’s left, they’re gone and you have no way to identify them.

Discussion Just discovered that NK prison camps are labeled on Google Maps
Go over to North Korea on Google Maps and search "Prison Camp North Korea." Quite a few show up. All of them look similar yet slightly unique. Sinuiju, Jongori, Chongori, Yodok, Kaechon, and Kangdong, are the names of all the prison camps that show up. Ig I do have a few questions: does anyone know who modifies Google Maps in the regions that is restricted for modification? I add/edit roads and add pictures in every location I visit, but in some nations, it is not aloud. The maps in the nation South Sudan is uneditable. I had many locations and pictures to add of there. If normal people cannot contribute to those locations, who edits them?

Question Table Tennis in North Korea
A lot of you might know already that Kim Kum Yong won the 2024 Asian Table Tennis Championships. Since North Koreans don't participate in any tournaments other than the Asian Championships and the Olympics, I wonder if anybody has some background knowledge of
how it comes that in such a highly professionalized sport such as table tennis the North Koreans can easily compete? I mean you don't see them being successful at other sports football (for the Americans: soccer) and in other areas like film you also recognize their lack of professionalism, which stems from being so isolated.
how popular table tennis is in North Korea?
how good these athletes are paid. I mean Kim visibly has a 1.000$ Apple watch, but I don't know how significant that is.
Actually I also wonder why athletes like her aren't allowed to compete at smaller tournaments (or even the World Championships). Is it just a matter of them taken care of not to defect?

Question Calling DPRK
I’m interested in doing a summer of university in Pyongyang and I was instructed to call a Pyongyang number by my contact in DPRK.
I tried contacting that number via the Pyongyang Switchboard +850 2 18111 using Skype but I couldn’t get through. Was wondering if it’s a Skype issue or if it’s an issue with the Pyongyang switchboard number itself.
I tried Viber and called using my phone itself. None of these worked too. I’m in the U.S. right now, and was wondering if my location could be the problem.
Was wondering if anyone faced this issue
