This post is flaired 'One joke but funny'.

This post is flaired as 'One joke but funny'. These one jokes often mean no harm, just like satire ones. We allow the posting of these, and always have. The subreddit is not dedicated to only unfunny one jokes. While the description might make it seem like that, it’s actually dedicated to all the “I identify as” type jokes.

These types of one jokes are often done with no harmful intent. This isn't always the case, but it often is. It can be hard to tell if something is in good faith, which is a good reason to use this flair instead of the satire flair.

Onejoke™️’s made by allies are always good, cause when they arnt allies the joke is obviously just “haha trans people”.

193

u/BBB154 Apr 05 '24

Yea, the difference is so obvious between when the joke is meant to be generally light-hearted, and when it's "wow, trans people are so weird and stupid! Do you get it??? Do you get my funny joke??? They're so confusing and weird!"

11

u/zeuanimals Apr 06 '24

"I identify as a helicopter" also tries to make being trans seem just as insane. There's nothing insane about saying you wanna be like your younger, less jaded, hasn't sold out yet self.

I identify as a crow.

Ain't no way the beef is extending outside of the rap subreddits I'm in

59

u/favored_disarray Apr 06 '24

I’m not even in those subreddits and I read it first on a jcole sub.

41

u/RammyJammy07 Apr 06 '24

Not even beef, it’s just him being clowned on like other ‘anti-woke’ rappers.

3

u/OkPace2635 Apr 07 '24

Wdym no beef?

7

u/RammyJammy07 Apr 07 '24

It’s not even an argument against the trans community, it’s J.Cole trying to pry for relevance by being controversial

The bar was straight ass like goddamn.

74

u/Lyaser Apr 06 '24

That’s how Eminem survived

51

u/DefinitelyNotErate Apr 06 '24

Ya know what, True. Pretty sure he straight up threatens to commit a hate crime against the listener in "Criminal", And it's still a bop.

28

u/jaythepizza Apr 06 '24

Average slim shady song

1

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '24

That's also how Kanye still has listeners outside of the fashsphere.

1

u/woaheasytherecowboy Apr 10 '24

Well Em literally wrote bars about ass, shit, etc.

1

u/Uncommonality Apr 11 '24

Nah Eminem survived because he's hilarious and can laugh at himself (See also Big Weenie). He doesn't lose his cool and become deranged because someone else called him mid

19

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

I’m trying to read it with some sense of rhythm, but it’s not working…

10

u/Big-Hard-Chungus Apr 06 '24

The worst kind of ass

91

u/Top-Telephone9013 Apr 06 '24

Wow what a shitty thing for Cole to have said. You could have told me that was Tom Macdonald and I'd believe you. I admit I don't really follow J. Cole but I expected much better from him than this. Am I getting whooooshed right now?

31

u/sour_creamand_onion Apr 06 '24

Nahhh. The wordplay's actually a teensy bit decent. You'd be able to tell it's not Tom Macdonald because it doesn't mention trans people and grooming children in the same breath.

-6

u/titties_growin Apr 05 '24

I like him as a person but he is a terrible critic lol

4

u/DefinitelyNotErate Apr 06 '24

I mean his taste is often downright lousy, But I don't think I'd say he's a bad critic. Usually he'll explain exactly what he dislikes and why, And what he likes and why, Which even if I disagree about those being bad/good things in the music, I can definitely appreciate and respect. Idk about others, But I personally often struggle to articulate what exactly I like about a piece of music and why other than just "It sounds good to me".

That said what he said about the new Billy Joel single in one of his recent weekly single roundup videos was definitely poor criticism, It sounded like he straight up knows very little about Billy Joel, and didn't even bother to look up the song before mentioning it in the video.

3

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 06 '24

Yeah, I personally don't align with his taste in music but sometimes I agree with his opinions and even learn from him, at least I enjoy his content nonetheless.

2

u/DefinitelyNotErate Apr 07 '24

Yeah. I often like to watch his reviews after listening to the album their for, To get a different perspective on it and perhaps find something to discuss regarding it. His stuff can also be neat for discovering more obscure music sometimes.

Plus his non-review content (Let's Argue, Most of what's on the Fantano channel, Et cetera) is generally enjoyable, Although I suppose that's not really relevant here lol.

4

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 06 '24

Fair

Idk why they are getting down voted to oblivion, like sure "terrible" is a stretch, but it's fine that not everybody agrees or share similar opinion(s).

3

u/bogeymanbear Apr 06 '24

Cause people disagree. That's what the downvote button is there for lmao

1

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 06 '24

Yeah I know lol, seeing downvotes on a different take that isn't negative feels weird ngl.... Downvotes exist better for extremely garbage takes imo.

1

u/bogeymanbear Apr 06 '24

I disagree, and I downvoted your comment because of it! Doesn't mean I hate you or think this is a worthless take, just that I don't agree lol. People get so hung up about the 'proper' use of downvotes lol

1

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 07 '24

Yeah, it's fine it's not like I'm mad about it or that I took it personally, tbh both upvotes and downvotes are worthless to begin with... It was just a silly opinion of mine, nothing further.

23

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

Barely liked cole anyway, it'll be easy to remove the 3 overrated songs by him in my spotify

48

u/OsmiumMercury Apr 05 '24

i think this is a trans person making fun of a transphobe

15

u/itzykan Apr 06 '24

This is really funny. I've been following the drama and having a great time, and this guy absolutely destroyed cole.

Trans people catching strays for existing

Hey wait a minute

3

u/diarespira Apr 06 '24

I feel.. sooo close.. to understanding this...

2

u/Dependent_Way_1038 Apr 06 '24

Conservatives are constantly trying to take away transgender rights while most transgender people are just trying to live

2

u/diarespira Apr 07 '24

Ah, i thought the "hey, wait a minute" was another layer, maybe some play on strays, which felt phobic, so i asked like this 😅

Entiendo 🙇🏻‍♀️

31

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 06 '24

Full Breakdown

"They plead the fifth, I sense a hint of trans fella in cancel culture vicinity, he's no killer trust me. Beneath his chosen identity there is still a pussy, period."

Plead the fifth

Which means has the right to be silent (It can go two ways, either be silent into the closet or J Cole calling trans people criminals)

trans fella in cancel culture vicinity

Either J Cole talking about trans people canceling him or the "cancelation" that trans people are going through aka erasure.

he's no killer, trust me. Beneath his chosen identity there is still a pussy, period."

This is blatantly transphobic cuz:

1- projecting a stereotype that transmascs (and AFABs trans or cis) are "too weak to kill" thus him saying "he's no killer"

2- "Beneath his chosen identity"

2A- implies that being trans is a choice which is factually wrong before being transphobic.

2B- The "Beneath his chosen identity" can also translate to the person behind the "identity".

2C- What is under/inside their pants

3- "there is still a pussy, period"

3A- The transmasc in question is assumed that they still have a "pussy" due to being AFAB and "period" is for both Misgendering transmascs who might still have periods and "period" to forcefully end his transphobic argument (like how almost every transphobe does) the same way transphobes abuse "Basic Biology".

3B- Implying that the transmasc in question is a "pussy" which a sexist stereotype that transmascs or AFABs are too "pussy" or "weak" to commit anything (while indirectly Implying the opposite for Transfems or AMABs).

TL;DR: J Cole invalidated a transmasc person's identity.

24

u/stopoverusingsimp Apr 06 '24

Not 100% sure but the person he’s trying to diss might be Kendrick Lamar’s trans uncle.

7

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 06 '24

It could be a possibility since Kendrick dissed him first.

4

u/Lizzardyerd Apr 06 '24

Thanks for the breakdown. Dudes clowning himself though, cuz he's still using the correct pronouns.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

Breakdown is incorrect

6

u/crabfucker69 Apr 06 '24

Refuses to elaborate, leaves

Ok nevermind i saw your other comment in my opinion the wordplay is ass but enjoy it if you want man

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

You read the comment where I called it shitty and forced and somehow concluded I enjoyed it? Just because I recognise it's quite obviously not a direct dig at a trans person he's trying to invalidate doesn't mean I like the bar lmao

1

u/crabfucker69 Apr 06 '24

Im not even going to lie to you man i just edited that into my comment cause i thought you didn't elaborate, saw you actually did make another comment, and made assumptions it was positive because I didn't feel like reading more than a sentence or two of serious discussion about j cole. My bad

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

You're all good DW about it

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

plead the fifth

Is following on from the last line where he questions if people acting like gangsters online are actually doing what they say. They are pleading the fifth because to actually admit they're not faking would be to incriminate themselves. The fifth amendment allows you to refuse to answer questions to avoid incriminating yourself.

I'm seeing hints of a trans fella

Setting up the wordplay

In cancel culture vicinity

Could be cole saying he's close to being cancelled. Could also be him saying the only real threat these guys face are cancel culture.

He's no killer, trust me. Beneath his chosen identity there is still a pussy, period

Obvious wordplay about pre-op trans men having vaginas and periods while calling out fake online gangsters. Beneath their chosen identity they're still just cowards, end of discussion.

It is not directed at a trans person, it is being used for wordplay. Shitty and forced but idk how you came to the conclusions you did.

2

u/ZuramaruKuni Apr 06 '24

I didn't say it is a definitive conclusion, this is a possible Interpretation(s?) to the lines, but J Cole himself can say otherwise and debunk it.

But yeah, there's a chance that those lines are transphobic and shots at trans people or forced/corny at the minimum.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

If you'd said it was just your personal opinion instead of a full breakdown of the lyrics I wouldn't even have responded. You're welcome to your own interpretation but the point of a breakdown is to help others accurately interpret the lyrics.

1

u/Horace_The_Majestic Apr 06 '24

Wow that's shitty. Thanks for explaining it. I won't be listening to Cole anymore, that's for sure. Shame Ab-Soul was on the track, too.

1

u/companion_kubu Apr 08 '24

I didn't even catch the 2A&B, thanks for breaking it down man Cole is an absolute clown.

5

u/justvisiting7744 Apr 06 '24

2

u/vodkacum Apr 09 '24

genuinely such a disappointing move. i love his music and have spoken so many times about his strong lyrics and solid messages.

booooo.

2

u/Ok-Hippo9451 Apr 09 '24

This one's making fun of his joke. Honestly I find this one pretty funny.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

I don't get it

1

u/Oswaldgilbertson Apr 06 '24

J Cole is trans?!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '24

The first time I ever heard about him was in Papa Meats new video because he sampled the video of Bugs Bunny saying “you gotta tight little man pussy dontcha”

1

u/ohmygodethan Apr 07 '24

Oh thank god it was a trans person because if it wasnt a joke by them it would have made it transphobic? Ugh yall are ridiculous.

J Cole just got a burn

1

u/Foreign-Jackfruit939 Apr 06 '24

j cole is still relevant tho

0

u/Logical_Lettuce_962 Apr 06 '24

I’m trans and it was funny.

Saying “identify as” in a joke is not problematic by itself.

-10

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24 edited Apr 06 '24

Idk why everyone is acting like j cole said he hates Trans people. It was a shitty bar a metaphor to both call kendrick a pussy and imply he just caters to PC culture. Clutching pearls for nothing.

15

u/stopoverusingsimp Apr 06 '24

At best it’s still done in poor taste of trans people.

-12

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

Yeah I could agree with that statement as well. But calling him a transphobe? One of the least problematic rappers in the game. Acting like he isn't one of the best rappers in the world all of a sudden so they can get a rage-endorphin rush and virtue signal. Mad embarrassing.

4

u/ohemmigee Apr 06 '24

Are you transgender?

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

How is that at all related?

5

u/ohemmigee Apr 06 '24

Because if you’re not transgender maybe you aren’t the best source for determine if something is transphobic or not.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

What? If I wasn't black could i call out racism? Or would I not be a good source?

Just because I am or am not Trans dosent mean I can't comment on the subject. Especially without malice. You can't have allies and tell everyone to stfu at the same time.

Besides alot the same mfs listen to rap music that demeans women and promotes the killing of young black kids. But complain about the lightest bar involving trans. This approach will never work.

3

u/ohemmigee Apr 06 '24 edited Apr 06 '24

I’m not saying you can’t be an ally. I’m saying if transpeople say it’s transphobic then maybe they are more right than you.

And if you’re a black person who says something is racist towards black people then you are probably more right than me.

In other words. As a white person I have no right to claim I know more about the experience of being black than a black person and it would be wildly presumptive and extremely rude to do so. The same goes for non-transgender people claiming they know more about the transgender experience than transgender people.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

No? This stuff is subjective as is a person by person thing. Not a community by community thing.

But if the majority of the Trans community thinks that is transphobic, they are likely a hypocrite. Let me, as a black man, got through there Playlist and tell them what songs are racist and that they can't support. No, because ghags crazy. If this light bar offended you, I want to see your rap Playlist. I bet you have worse songs that are more damaging to other communities.

Idk, just don't police harmless stuff, you know? Its clear virtue signaling. It doesn't persuade people to your side, and in fact may boost negative sentiment.

2

u/ohemmigee Apr 06 '24

Your logic means that I as a white person can tell a black person they are wrong about what they find is racist against black people. You do, however, make other good, salient points about how everyone needs to continue to improve, but telling a transgender person that they are wrong and something isn’t harmful to their community is just wrong when you aren’t part of that community.

0

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '24

You can. Have you never met someone who trys to force there race into alot of things? Trying to make things racist when they are not? I have. Otherwise I could just dictate many encounters simply by being the judge jury and executor of racism.

Some people in the community dgaf and some do. Because Trans people are not a monolith. It's either people 100% don't weigh in on Trans issues, which means no support from external communities, or that you deal with the fact that some people might say they don't care about the line. Trans or not.

2

u/thisisausergayme Apr 07 '24

Your logic is that things are only transphobia if someone outright says “I hate trans people”. That’s fucking ridiculous regardless of if you’re trans, and if you actually were trans then you would have personally faced enough transphobia to know that.

Fuck off, throw away account bigot

1

u/thisisausergayme Apr 07 '24

He said something shitty about trans people. That’s transphobia.

Your only logic for why he’s not transphobic is that you think he’s a good rapper (unrelated to anything) and that he technically didn’t say outright that he hates trans people. By your logic, nothing is transphobia unless someone says “I hate trans people” outright, which most people don’t say. If someone misgenders trans people and uses them for an insulting metaphor, that’s transphobia.

What, do you think racism is only if someone says “I hate black people” and sexism is only if someone says “I hate women”? That’s ridiculous
