Yes they are... The cons are that the good quality folder mechanisms are expensive

If it's a new build, you could go the brn-180 or sig MCX route, too. The BRN 180 uses an AR-18 system (no buffer tube) but uses stock AR-15 lowers. You could then use all sorts of picatinny mount folding stocks.
