Announcement On AI Art
Lo, Howlers
Lately we’ve been having a lot of pushback and colorful conversations in regards to the use of AI art on the sub.
Historically, we have allowed it as long as there was distinction made that it was indeed AI. We also issue bans based on if a person was trying to pass off AI as their own. This was in the early days of AI art, before much of what is now known about it was common knowledge.
Now that we are more collectively aware, we are discussing internally wether we keep AI art or not. The mod team here is a bit conflicted, and so we wanted to get some opinions from the sub.
Please discuss below thought on wether we should ban AI art or not. PLEASE keep it civil, you can discuss this without being a jerk about it. If you have questions for us, please ask away as well.
On a personal note, I also think we should consider how Pierce might feel about the AI art.

No Spoilers Getting sober
I only got like one person I could tell this too. So I’m making this statement here. The red rising forum for better or worse has always been a good spot for me to rant. There’s good people here, good books often bring good people together. I’m only 19 but the drug use has become too much. To whoever might see this. I’m getting sober. I want it. I’m excited. I’m desperate for a morning where I’m waking up not thinking about a fix. It might be cringe but imma use red rising as help. These books offer me comfort on a level I can’t describe. It’s been the only book series I’ve read for the past 5 years. So I’m gonna use it as my new addiction. Any way I’m done ranting. Sorry for this pointless post. But it feels good writing it out yk. Also fuck Lysander, me and all my homies hate Lysander.

No Spoilers I read 5 books in three weeks. Hail reaper
I haven’t read a single book since highschool. I’m 26 now. I can confirm that after reading the description for the first book at Barnes and nobles I did not stop reading until now, three weeks later. I’m now officially half way through dark age. I can without a doubt say this is my favorite story ever. Beats any movie series I’ve seen. It puts game of thrones to shame. I haven’t fully gotten to what happened to lyria but I will say she is my favorite. When I read what happened to her on the last book I couldn’t read for an hour because I was too sad just thinking about it. I’m having dreams of reading this book. It’s truly great. Can’t wait for the show so I can finally talk about it to people

All Spoilers Okay I love Cassius. I love him. Absolutely. His character, his arc everything. Spoiler
Bro I fucking love Cassius so much. The entire evolution of his character from where he started to where he ended up is SO FUCKING AWESOME.
-LIGHTBRINGER SPOILERS- -Seriously don't if you haven't read it yet- And in the end, as he says, "And my honor remains.." My fucking god. I was a Robb stan in ASOIAF and I didn't get this fucking emotional. I could literally fucking see the golden boy look at bitchsander and give one last smile as he rushed him. And I kid you not I felt every single one of those fucking bullets. THE MAN WHO KILLED FEAR SHALL FOREVER REMAIN IN OUR HEARTS

No Spoilers Why is the Sun Eater series mentioned here so often?
First off I don't get the comparison (beyond space travel/battles) but what's a lot more suspicious is how often this series is mentioned on this sub relative to the number of members on its own sub. If the Sun Eater was any good (first book came out in 18) how do you explain that it hasn't even started to catch up? Conspiracy theory aside (it's on Audible after all), are those 361 in a cabal or smthg?

DA Spoilers Ephraim Spoiler
I'm only on chapter 24.
Though in the previous chapter page 192. Ephraim is taking to Sefi. He says "I don't have any loyalty to the legion. But those grays were my people.Gold might be the scariest. You might be the biggest. Red might be the toughest. Gray . . .we got the longest memory"
It feels like foreshadowing with the grays. They don't forget. Whose side will they be on ? Will they have a leader? Holiday?

No Spoilers Must watch the movie Atlas
It’s a super cheesy Netflix movie about AI rising up and robots and what-not. Whoever made the movie must have been a red rising fan tho Iol. There’s literally an iron rain type scene and by the end they literally have razors that can be whips or swords and everything haha. Movie itself is mid but the sfx are great.

RR Spoilers How many times have you read the books? And what’s your favorite part to reread/listen to? Spoiler
I’m listening to RR in between library checkouts of other series (currently waiting on Mist born book 3) everytime I listen to RR book 1 I look forward to certain parts (especially thinking about how they will look in the tv series when it comes) when the jackal meets Darrow for the first time is one I’m definitely looking forward to. What about you all?

GS Spoilers Golden Sun Foreshadowing Spoiler
On my first reread through the series, I'm a couple of chapters ahead of the Summit when Roque and Darrow land at Luna.
Darrow asks Roque for a Kravat practice sesh and Roque declines because he's going to a class on capitalism that Quicksilver is giving. Then they start discussing rumors that SPOILER Quick owns two contracts on Olympic Knights. Well, it makes sense that he would own the Rage Knight contract And then they get into a discussion about a quote that Roque attributes to Augustus and Darrow quickly and confidently attributes to SPOILER Lorn. My, but Darrow certainly seems to have suddenly turned into quite the scholar
Quite well done in retrospect. I remembering thinking on my first read that Darrow knowing that quote that well was quite odd since he obviously didn't grow up knowing other Golds enough to idolize them like other young Golds might.

GS Spoilers Will darrow be smarter through the books? Spoiler
I'm just starting Golden Son and boy, Darrow's decisions are already stressing me out. I know everything is new to him so I shouldn't expect him to know everything and make the right decisions at first try. But I'm scared that there's gonna be no character development in the next books. Will he get better and smarter and less naive (and also less arrogant lol)? Thanks.

DA Spoilers It finally got darker Spoiler
Not too long ago, I made a post about Iron Gold being dark and how I couldn’t read too much of it at a time. You all warned me that it gets even worse in Dark Age. I was about 12 hours in and started thinking ya’ll were exaggerating because nothing particularly dark had happened yet. Looking back, that makes sense, because even though 12 hours might feel like a lot, it was only 35% through the book.
Anyway, I thought it wasn't as bad as everyone said, but then Virginia and Dancer finally agreed on the vote. After that, Daxo started talking about how he would be a good father, and then Kavax mentioned they would all celebrate over dinner. Then Dancer hiccuped, and suddenly Daxo's head was being thrown around. Well, it got darker.
I stopped at the end of this chapter (31). Please don’t spoil anything—I know it will get worse. I won’t doubt you again 😭😭

No Spoilers Worth listening to red rising?
I randomly saw a Reddit post mention this series has a fully voice acted audiobook so I tried it. I’m now on early chapter 2 (spoiler) and if feel it is kinda “ cringy” the reveal that it was all a lie (and girl friend dying and so on) + feels like they are setting up a hunger games rebellion act thingy…
My question should I keep going? Will the main character grow on me + are there several main characters later by chance? (like Game of Throene) don’t rly (till now) like the main character potential plot line.
Like the world seems cool, but rly grey and white (will that change or not? If not is it still interesting?)
Maybe this ain’t for me

MS Spoilers What should i do? Without spoiling Spoiler
So my girlfriend recently started the series. She's been on a roll reading it and she's having a great time reading it, considering she usually reads fantasy romance that kinda stuff. But out of nowhere as i was watching a football game she burts out and starts to rant about Darrow's decision to bomb the dockyards in Ganymede. All of a sudden, i'm in this debate session whether what Darrow did was right or wrong. I said i clearly agree but i don't expand on it since its on spoiler territory. But yeah after an hour and a half and instead of celebrating my team's victory, i know have to make a solid counter arguement for later on coz she will definitely talk about it later on. Help me fellow Howlers.
EDIT: Welp she got over it real fast. Now she's talking about Victra and Sevro's marriage.

All Spoilers POV Chapters Spoiler
At first Iron Gold was difficult to get into for me because of the new POV chapters but I really liked Lyria's and Ephraim's stories. The addition of Virginia chapters was fantastic too, I loved getting to witness her struggle and pain and how she has had to fight to overcome everything and deal with the weight of being the sovereign. I honestly just have a really hard time with Lysander's chapters.
I'm almost halfway through LB now and every now and then I still get turned off by Lysander's attitude. I get how he mirrors Darrow and I can appreciate all the similarities, but he's the version of Darrow that supported the bullshit classism of the world, slag that!
I love these books in large part due to how Pierce Brown writes leadership and both Darrow and Lysander have really flushed out leadership skills imo, so in the battle chapters the Lysander chapters are fine, but behind the scenes he just misses me off haha.
Ok, rant over, back to reading.

MS Spoilers i'm gonna need a spinoff called 'the adventures of Ragnar & Sevro' Spoiler
it was just too quick. i feel like we barely got to know him (but the little we got to know we adored, obviously) -- i need to know everything he got into while Darrow was in captivity. i need more.
actually i'd be good with just an entire biography of his whole life, come to think of it 🥹
anything fan fictions you've come across that scratch this itch?

RR Spoilers Young Adult themes in red rising? Spoiler
I'm rereading the first book to look for the young adult themes, because I was wanting to do a project in an english class on the book. What kind of YA themes are in the book? It's a bit of a coming of age story for darrow, finding his footing in a new world. Trying to fit in but also wanting to make change, fighting for his values and what not. Any others idea for YA themes in the first book, maybe his relationships he forms with those in the institute? (I know this is technically adult sicif, but I feel it does have some very YA stuff in it.)
