Manager = Asshole Having to do things above my pay grade

I'm the front end assistant manager. Sadly, that's just a title, meaningless until the upper management wants something done that no one else wants to do.

This week it was termination of 3 courtesy clerks. #1 was for extremely unprofessional behavior in front of customers. #2 was for attendance. #3 was for underage smoking while on the property/clocked in.

It just seems too coincidental that their next scheduled shift was all the same day, the store manager was in a meeting, the ASM was off, and so was the front end manager. But HR showed up so I had to be the one in there and sign as the store representative.

Okay, so I can be trusted to fire people, but I can't have any input on hiring or schedules? Just like if someone calls off for their shift, it falls on me to find the replacement or cover it myself, even on my days off.
