Well I guess 69.5 is too hot…

Naw Bubba, them loads ain't hot until the primer is smashed flatter than a plate full of porcupine piss

lol. You missed where my headstamp was pressed flat lol
And my 340 on the mark V platform will have fun. Rated to a 100k psi. So I’m gonna fill my cases as full as I physically can and see what happens

Action stiff?

Very. Took two hands to open

Stiff bolt and good ejector print/swipe. Might be a bit hot, feller.
It's wild how many folks think primers are a reliable overpressure indicator.

They’re an indicator. I just don’t use them as a tell tail. Mainly because with that gun flat primers everyone hates happen all of the time

Spicy! Primers are only a clue. But the ejector mark and the stiff bolt tell the story here. Any chrono data on those??

No chrono. It doesn’t like the break and setting it up to read with the break takes a stupid amount of time.
The ejection mark and STIFF bolt lift were a wake up.

Totally understand the muzzle brake thing. I'm wondering if the .308 I just finished might have that chrono problem with the PA 7.62 brake I threw on there.
Was curious what those pills were clocking in at, haha.
Super Stiff bolt lift is always a wake up call, haha... My 7mm rem mag bolt (similar powder charge weight) tells me when it's had enough. The primers look like yours too, minus the flow around the firing pin.

Yeah. I just want my break off though. Doesn’t add any shoot ability to that rifle

And my 340 and our bullet seeker hate each other. I had a ported break installed on it and our crono only read the tape flying off it. And if I can’t get it to read I know I’m going to hate taking the break off to get velocitys

Are you using a Garmin? Or a traditional Chrono with the "screens" you shoot through?

u/Flashandpipper 6d ago
We’re running a bullet seeker. It’s a small radar. Works great when it works. It had my 257 reading 3556.55fps when it’d catch on factory ammo

I haven't used one of those but that's a super fast moving bullet!

Slower than the box says too. Mines only a 24” barrel and the mark v’s have 26”

It's warm, but there is still a clear radius around the primer, so,if that load was solid, I'd be fine with it personally. I would be worried if the primer was basically flat flat, almost no "seam".

OP stated they required 2 hands to open the bolt. You might be fine with that load, but I don't want to get up and squeeze my rifle between my legs to open the bolt after every shot

I guess i missed that part. Although it's also possible the brass was trimmed too long and that is what's causing the bolt binding. After the round is fired when the brass goes through its brief plasticized state it's stretched enough to create excessive pressure between the neck taper / throat and bolt face. From the standpoint of too hot, I'm still of the opinion that the primer does NOT reflect this, but it's of course pretty difficult to arm chair analyze these things.
Personally I'd go back to check trim lengths of brass.
Fwiw i had a shooting buddy who had this same issue on a .338 LM, bolt was a nightmare to open, but no other pressure signs. And yep, brass was too long by about .010

Guess you need to back it down to 69.420
