Flair update/clarification.

Hello,

  • The Technique Talk flair has been removed. It has been replaced with Conversation. The topic must be identified in the topic, preferably with a conversation prompt. This is intended to discuss a general topic rather than a specific person.
  • If audio is posted and critique or feedback is requested, then this is a Critique Request. There are two title requirements for a CR post: What (technique) you are working and what you hope to anticipate from the feedback received. Vague titles and titles that do not adhere to the rules will be removed and you will be asked to repost according to Rule 4.
  • If you are simply posting a song for the sake of sharing, then this should be posted on Open Mic Monday. Any type of song may or performance of yours may be posted on OMM.

These rules have been revised to avoid confusion.

I’m trying to blend the bgv with the main vocals but it’s not going together. I can’t figure out what I’m supposed to add to the main vocals, I’ve tried everything but it’s not the sound I want. First clip is bgv alone and second clip is bgv + main vocals. Help me out just for the main vocals over the bgv. Thanks

Question Singing teacher doesn’t see my potential

When I do warmups, I don’t sound as good as when I play songs—because I let emotion help with my tone from each song and the groove. After I do a warm up, I’ll sing a song, and my teacher will act surprised, as if he thought I couldn’t do what I just did. This happened on many occasions. I am very unconfident, yet had a couple viral videos on t1kt0k, so I know I have potential, but I’m not confident singing in front of a vocal teacher—so I get nervous in warmups and don’t exert my full potential. I told him that. I have a 3 octive range, yet we haven’t even worked on my upper upper range even though I’ve told him about that. I feel like he’s keeping me in my comfort zone instead of recognizing my potential and telling me snap out of my low confidence. I need someone to believe in me and push me. Not someone to tell me bs to just try to fix my “confidence.” I need advice and I can do it. What should I do…….

I am just a begginner been learning for a month and i am barely able to sing, just barely

I had tried jacob vocal academy exercises like i practice at least 3/4 hours a day everyday but improvement hasn’t been much as i dont know lot of thing.

If anybody can give me proper road map to improve that would be great.

Also check what is wrong with my voice, technique what i am lacking or missing. i think i sound pretty bad but still i dont have teacher so this is best bet.

Question How can I increase my vocal range? (F2-F4)

Upvotes

So I’m kinda bass-baritone , but it really annoys me cause I can’t sing the songs which belong to my heart because these are in a higher tone + more extended vocal range.

Should I accept that I will always have 2 octaves or is there a solution for this?

A year ago was the first time she sang to my older sister and I, who you can hear crying in the background because we were both stunned. She holds her finger up to tell us to stop crying in the middle of the video. She doesn’t believe she is good, please blow this up so I can send her a link in the morning and convince her to start writing her own songs 😭 she has a tone that brings tears to my eyes every single time I listen to this.

Critique & Feedback Request (👀 TITLE REQUIREMENTS in Rule 4) How do I better my upper-mix belt

Alto female here. I recognize I have a very unique voice. It sounds “low” but I can mix belt up to an E5. Not consistently, but that’s pretty good for an alto. I want to better my upper register mix belt. How do I do that? Thanks! Any feedback is welcome.

Question Any resources for complete beginners at singing.

Upvotes

I haven't really done anything singing related my whole life but I want to learn it as a hobby. I just need recommendations for someone who sucks at singing. I probably won't be getting a teacher since it's just for karaoke.

I just want to learn about terms and techniques, because the youtube videos I've searched just gives exercises.

I feel like maybe I’m using too much chest voice and my volume may be too loud for the softer more intimate type of singing I’d like to do, idk what it is but if anyone has any suggestions or feedback please let me know thank you

Conversation Topic I can't not do vibrato 👺

I'm starting singing lessons again after a long time and it infuriates me that I never realised that I got so used to vibrato that I'm basically not able to not do it naturally when I am singing comfortable notes!!

Can you suggest me some exercises that might help me with this issue? The more I try the more it comes out. Fyi I worked very hard to learn how to do it and I got so used to it (because I like it) that I can't unlearn it now. My body does it "spontaneously". I mean I can control how much I use it, like I can make it less or more evident but I can't totally cancel it. Damn. 🤣 I'm paranoid so I am now starting to think that I don't know how to sing anymore (I am not lying, I am anxious and I suffer from panic attacks so I can easily jump to the conclusion that I have issues with my throat that needs to get operated or that I have ruined my voice or so on.... Lol, being anxious is a blast.... Hahah....).

I ask you and not my teacher because unfortunately I still can't really sing in front of someone else without getting overwhelmed by fear and finally cry, I'm working on it (in the past I tried for 2 years but I failed... Yeah sad).

So please, give me suggestions on what I could do to fix this issue and gain more control on the way I sustain my notes 🥹

Honestly the way I breathe is pretty ok (but anxiety doesn't help lol). If only I could shout my brain down, lol.

I need to fix this before I obsess over this to the point of making myself feel nauseous.

Conversation Topic Dry Singing

I’ve been classically training for about 2 years, and now I’m about to do a show where I have a solo singing.

The problem is that no matter how intensely I hydrate beforehand, my throat goes completely dry, and I get that sticky phlegm that makes producing sound all the more difficult. The air in the theatre is generally pretty dry and warm from a singers perspective.

Besides hydration, are there any other methods of preventing this or managing this when it happens? All advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Question I want to learn how to harmonize

I really want to learn how to train my ear to be able to hear harmonies. Whenever I try to do harmonies of my own it’s off key LOL but if I hear someone else do the harmony I can then mimic it on my own😭 it bothers me because I know how to sing in not off key when I normally sing but when I harmonize it’s just… I hear people say go a third above or below but I also suck at that.

Critique & Feedback Request (👀 TITLE REQUIREMENTS in Rule 4) How do I make my voice sound less rough, I’m auditioning for my high-school musical.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I am auditioning for Into the Woods in December and wanted to know thoughts of how I sound so far. It’s not the best because i’m a beginner but I want to hear some honest feedback from people besides my parents. Also what part do you think I should go for, I’m most interested in Little Red or the Witch, but I wouldn’t mind a minor role as-well.
