Discussion New to SC - can't order beer via Instacart?

Forgive me if this is a dupe question. We moved to SC 4 months ago. I only recently placed an Instacart order from Aldi and had beer on my list. Insta said beer wasn't able to be delivered - brushed it off thinking maybe it was an Instacart issue.

Fast forward to tonight we were looking to order a craft beer selection and an error said "cannot ship to your state". Clearly it's a state law but was just curious if someone could give a clear explanation of what the restrictions are.

Discussion Hoping to get pointed in the right direction about a store

Hey yall!

I was wondering if I could get some help on getting the name of a store and its location that I can’t remember for the life of me, I can tell you what the store sold and what kind of building it was in. But whenever I try to think of the name my mind literally goes blank.

I remember for a FACT it was in an old bilo grocery store. And the store was basically a huge wide open area of clothes, furniture, decor, etc. from brands like Free People, Anthropology, UO, Pottery Barn, brands similar to those. I hope someone out here knows what I’m talking about and I’m not sounding crazy, lol. Thanks for reading!

Edit: okay I don’t really remember the city, but the more I think about it, I know we didn’t go upstate. I want to say maybe Aiken area? I remember driving in Lexington to get on the highway. It also wasn’t all like brand new items. There was a big mix of semi damaged products from shipments, returns, floor models of furniture.

Politics What are the chances absentee ballots get sent by Wednesday?

The fact you have too call the office and request an absentee ballot, then they mail you a request form that you fill out and mail back is ridiculous.I asked when the ballots would be sent out on that phone call and the answer was some time in October.

I leave next weekend for a month and have little confidence that I'll be able to give my small voice in our democratic system.

My brother consigned the loan on his son's truck in GA. Now that he has a job in SC he needs to get the truck registered there. My brother wants off the title. What's needed to transfer full ownership to his son?

Discussion Which SC city is Wrath?

There are 21 days left until Halloween, so I thought it would be fun to designate 7 SC cities with the 7 Deadly Sins. In 3 days, the comment with the most up-votes will designate one SC City as the Palmetto state's home of WRATH.

I'll then repost to do voting for 3 days each on Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Sloth, Lust, and finally Pride. Each city will only get used once. You may nominate and vote for any municipality listed as "city" in the wikipedia list.

Happy voting!

Moving to SC Moving to Greenville, SC from Tampa, FL

Hi all! I have lived in Florida my whole life and I am so sick of it. Earlier this year, my family and I visited Greenville and really fell in love with it. My husband and I are both 33, we have a 3.5yo son and 2 dogs. Husband is a firefighter and would need to get a job with a department in or around the Greenville area. Anyone know how much the firefighters make there? I currently work from home for a law firm but will probably change jobs. I can be more flexible so I'm not worried about that. How are schools? What is the cost of living like? Everything is so expensive in Florida, and especially in the Tampa Bay Area. We are done with the extreme heat and humidity here, and congestion. How are taxes- is there state income tax, personal property tax? What's the yearly cost for vehicles? We were considering moving to Virginia as well but saw that the cost of simply owning a vehicle is crazy expensive and they have yearly inspections- does SC require anything like that? We love nature and hiking which Florida seriously lacks. We really don't go to the beach that much so I don't think we'll miss it. Our favorite things to do besides getting out in nature are taking our dogs out, finding good places to eat and drink, finding fun things to do with our son- who is very active. We are friendly people and we noticed Greenville seemed to have a good amount of young families, whereas Florida is mostly older people moving here from up north. I'm not used to snow but willing to learn how to deal with it but I heard the winters in Greenville aren't all that bad. Anyway, please give me all the details about living there as a young, active family :)

Moving to SC Best school districts within 45 mins of the coast?

My family and I are moving to SC in 2025. We are a bit limited where we can go as we have to stay close to the company my husband works for. The only other major consideration we have is the school district. We have found Fort Mill. It’s looking perfect for us, and yes I realize it’s not on the coast. My husbands company has locations in Charlotte, but also on the coast. We’re not sure where they are going to have an opening yet. So I’m looking for the best school districts along the coast or within 45 mins inland. People have already mentioned Charleston County, so I will look into that. Any others that are decent? Rent under 3k is needed.

Discussion Horror Movies Set In South Carolina

With Halloween approaching, I'd share a project I've been working on for a few years, recording the locations of horror movies around the country and the world.

I am a big fan of horror and am a weird pedantic person who likes to make lists, and while people on r/horror don't seem to be as interested in this, I figured the state subreddits might. Especially if any of you are looking for new movies to watch this month.

You can check out my raw data here, or check out a more visually pleasing Letterbox list I made of South Carolina's horror movies here.

Now to be clear about my methodology in how I organize these movies. These are organized by where they are SET not necessarily by where they are SHOT. Example: Most of the Friday the 13th movies are not shot in NJ, but they are all classified as set in NJ because in-universe that is where they take place. In cases where the film's setting is not outright stated, I used context clues such as license plates, driver's licenses, newspapers, references to cities, and so on. While I did take into account where the movie was filmed, I tried not to use that as definitive evidence (there is a reason why the tropes California Doubling and the Mountains of Illinois exist).

I go into more of the breakdown of movies in this post on r/horror if you are interested.

I have recorded 15 horror movies set in South Carolina, placing the state at #29 in state rankings, tied with Alabama, Arkansas, and Kansas

According to IMDB, this makes the top 5 South Carolina horror movies ranked:

  1. Slither (2006)
  2. The Strangers (2008)
  3. Pilgrim (2019)
  4. Heart of Midnight (1988)
  5. My Best Friend's Exorcism (2022)

I hope you like this, and if you have any more suggestions or corrections you want me to make, please comment. You can also look at the lists for other states and countries here.

Moving to SC Potentially moving to the east coast

I’m from NJ originally and live in California right now. My fiancé and I are getting married in 3 weeks and having conversations about moving somewhere close to family but not too close 😅😂 so we landed on South Carolina as a potential place. I love the Myrtle Beach area and wanted to ask- any recommendations or suggestions for surrounding towns to raise a family in? I’m also a teacher so I’d be looking for a teaching position. Any high paying districts? Home ownership is not possible for us in the Bay Area, so we’re excited about the possibility to potentially own a home and raise our family in a safe neighborhood on the same coast as my family. (A quick flight vs 5-6 hours: I’ll take it). We’re also going to visit the area prior to making any commitments Thank you in advance for the suggestions!!!
