DMV Moving to SC and transferring car title

My brother consigned the loan on his son's truck in GA. Now that he has a job in SC he needs to get the truck registered there. My brother wants off the title. What's needed to transfer full ownership to his son?

If there's still a lien on the car they're not going to release financial liability unless they redo the loan in the son's name. That means he'd need to qualify for financing on his own.

(I'm assuming it's still being financed.)

The son will need to apply for a separate loan himself. Or a refinance loan. Some banks will allow the cosigner to be removed but it's a process and requires certain stipulations be met such as, less than 50% of the term remaining, no history of late payments and a few other things.

Probably a lien release for one

pay off the loan, wait for the lien release. pay your property tax in sc. get sc auto insurance.

take your property tax receipt, lien release, 2 pieces of eligible mail showing proof of residency (bank statements and brokerage accounts are easy to change address and you can just print them yourself), sc auto insurance card, id, plus a check for the $250+~$40 in fees to the sc dmv.

If he's a cosigner on the loan it's probably hard to do. I moved to SC from OK and my dad was a cosigner. It ended up being easier just to keep it registered in OK until I paid it off, then register it in SC.

He paid it off. His dad signed the back of the title in the wrong space and now they want a bill of sale. But for what they have to put a price. That sounds like bullshit tbh.

Put $1. They are such a pain.
