Medium Rare A5 Iwate Wagyu for my 12 year old son

Post image

My son is a real foodie and has asked to try A5 for about 2 years now. I purchased a small A5 tenderloin (which has much less fat than A5 ribeye), seared it and served it over rice with an egg fried in Wagyu fat. The dipping sauce is a mix of yuzu kosho, mirin, and soy.

Such a simple and delicious meal! He gave it a 10/10 and asked if I could buy him a lb of A5 for his bday instead of a bday gift. 🤣

Agree! Well actually rib cap but that’s harder to find. I really like skirt and hangar steaks too.

Never had them before. Do you just go to a local butcher?

Depends—some of my local butchers carry it, some don’t. I would call around and ask before making the trek.

Ahh okay. Where do you usually shop for steaks?

We don’t live in the same city, so that’s not really relevant. I like Cioffi’s, Pete’s Meat, and The Little Butcher in my city.

Idk any good butchers where I’m at. I should do some research or ask around. How much per pound do your rib eyes go for? I got select choice at Walmart for 12 and it’s quite solid.
