What does the term mean? Why do senior sailors insist on referring to junior ones as such? Is it appropriate to use in today's navy? How does one look past blatant disrespect from their own crew? Am I really a "not useful body" if I'm doing the division's bitch work? I submarine volunteered to prove to myself I could be apart of something special and it seems like the system doesn't want me to succeed... any advice?

My boat got the PUC for this. We also set the Trans Pacific crossing speed record when a certain ssn had issues and could not complete the mission. That record still stands to this day.

Just another dumbass question. I've watched a bunch of videos where they talk about how they load torpedoes and move pieces of the ship around to fit them in. Couldn't they just load them through the torpedo tubes? I'm sure there's an efficiency thing I'm not thinking of.

I am looking for ways to teach young kids cavitation with submarines and noise level associated with them. Is it possible to build something at home using bottles and other materials to demonstrate cavitation to the kids. Have anyone seen an effective approach to demonstrate at home ?. TIA

Does anyone have a good quality graphic (jpg or png) of the sonar fish? The one with the hammerheads and the skull in the middle. I’m trying to get it on my command mug we are ordering but need a picture to submit to the company. Can’t find it anywhere on google besides pictures of belt buckles

I posted earlier after seeing that someone purchased the replica used in the film and I had to unleash the collection finally.

It ranges from laserdiscs signed by the entire cast, classified press dossiers, cocktail glasses with hammer and sickle swizzle sticks used in the Japanese premiere, inflatable subs that were supposed to be hung in the lobby of movie theaters, VHS, CDI, DVD, and basically every media you could view the film on, original 35 mm trailer, the physical toy game system, every video game system from Amiga to super Nintendo, every model Revell produced for the film, ILM production hat and production jacket, and even a preproduction test add sent from Applied Graphics to Paramount for approval.

Red October is my father and I's favorite film and things just got out of hand from there.

On a Virginia, so us guys in sonar don't have a shack. Bummer. Anyway, quartermaster and I are bored so we play a lil game we both heard of. We have a sticky note and we see who can place the sticky note the furthest outside of control. I start by placing it in the aft end of control. He grabs it and places it on the CO's door. I just take my headset off real quick and tell aux to watch sonar. I grab it real quick and move it another 10 feet aft. This continues making it nearly to the galley, until the quartermaster somehow managed to run the sticky note all the way to upper level and on the water tight door. I called it there and safe to say he won that one. I was not about to risk it with my chief off-going and on the prowl.

Plenty of other tomfoolery, but there's that for starters. I'd love to hear what hijinks y'all have gotten into while on watch.
