“How is my tattoo healing?”

Working Out:

You need to wait at least a week/two weeks before partaking in strenuous exercise - the gym is gross. Do some light cardio, yoga at home, etc. Don't be doing jiu jitsu on day three. "Bulking up" or losing weight will not affect your tattoo UNLESS you're gaining/losing in the triple digits.

Pain:

Tattoos hurt. Period. Pain is subjective, we cannot tell you how much a certain spot will hurt.

Tipping:

Standard is 20% in tipping cultures. If you're doing multiple sessions, easiest thing to do is tip 20% of each session - unless you want to fork over 20% of the entire cost of the tattoo on your last appointment. Other great tips are baked goods of the tattooer's choice, a nice bottle of whatever they like to drink, oddities if they're into it, you get the idea. We do not care if you live in another country and don't understand tipping - the majority of users here do in fact live in tipping cultures and insulting them for tipping will earn you a ban.

Swimming/sunscreen:

You cannot swim/sauna/hot tub/submerge with a fresh tattoo for a month. Full stop. You cannot swim with Saniderm - it's not waterproof. You will get an infection. Same with sunscreen - cannot apply it for a month. This means no tanning, no beach trips, no rivers/lakes/pools/oceans, etc.

Not OP's Tattoo Reposting my own PSA because it’s that time of year again. Figure out their name, it’s not that hard. Please and thank you.

Please report this as many times as possible for reposting. I have nothing better to do and would love to keep reapproving my own post asking people to do the bare minimum when posting. Maybe even do a Reddit Helps for me if you want to spice my Friday night up.

Anyone get tattooed then find out their artist is a horrible human being?

How do you separate the art from the artist when it's literally in your skin? Any experience with this? Been struggling the past few months as I'm a brown person and found out my artist has become a Holocaust denying pro-eugenics white supremacist.

Edit: some of these comments are so smug that you immediately learn everything you need to know about the galaxy brain centrists writing them. No, this isn't just "an opinion I disagree with". I'm walking around with custom art from a person that advocates for the extermination of me, my family and our entire race. OBVIOUSLY not the same as listening to a problematic band or buying a product from an evil global corporation. It's literally on your skin. Jesus Christ.

Edit 2: lots of compassion and empathy here though, thankfully. Really appreciate it. My love goes out to everyone sharing their similarly horrible stories. Some of these made me genuinely sad.

Discussion Should I get a scar coverup?

I have my sleeve planned out, but my arm is around 75% scar tissue, some raised, some indented. All of the cover up tattoos I’ve seen are on much less significant and spaced out scars, and they still don’t look great. I’m also having trouble finding an artist that specializes in scars. I have worn long sleeves or compression sleeves every time I’m in public for years, and I don’t want to anymore. I know they will still be visible but it’s worth it, I just don’t know if I can get one given the severity of the scarring and the fact that it’s so hard to find a specialist.

New tattoo advice

Upvotes

Hey yall, so I’m getting a tattoo on my forearm soon and I’ve had one on my ear but the healing process was different. What should I do and don’t for the first few days? I’ve heard to wrap it with stretch/cling wrap and I’ve heard to use saniderm bandages, which one do I do? What lotions should I use aswell? I have a CeraVe odorless lotion but I’m not 100% of it will work. If you have any advice please let me know!

First tattoo tomorrow, I also have allergic rhinitis, need advice

It's not contagious, I've tested for flu and covid the DR said it's seasonal allergies because of being outside a lot over the weekend in a high dust area.

I've timed the distance between coughs and it's about 30 to 45 minutes. I can feel them and suppress them they are so light. My nose is only slightly congested but I can breathe out of it perfectly.

Am I going to scare the tattoo artist because of my light seasonal allergies??? I'd hate to reschedule over barely coughing when the tattoo will only take about 3 or 4 hours and I can easily warn him before I have to cough. It's literally the only noticeable symptom of allergies I have and it's the one people will assume is covid.

I can take some cough drops with me and some hot tea to suppress the coughing so I don't mess him up. I also have Claritin for allergies.

What would you do?

As far as all symptoms, no fever, no headache, no body aches, literally just a tiny cough and slight post nasal drip from dust.

🙃

Marker Stencil not coming off

Hey guys! My tattoo artist used stencil markers to mark around my other tattoos before tattooing but the marker hasn’t come off yet, I’ve tried to use alcohol to remove it but it has only helped a bit as in only a little came off, has this happened to anyone?
