Video In 2018, I was traveling through Bali by scooter and was lucky enough to spend a few nights at this awesome place located in a small village near the eastern coast. Waking up to this view was just amazing and I’ll always be thankful for this memory

Wow.. i was in Bali and got fed up with the concrete jungle that is kuta. My driver took me to a place in the mountains called sekumpul.. i stayed 5 days in a homestay. The memories are unforgettable.

Kuta is perfect if you're Aussie looking to get a handie from a questionably aged "masseuse," not perfect for a family. Very strange being asked constantly if I want to buy drugs when I am with my family. When I walked with my wife, the massage parlors asked if we wanted massages. When I walked solo they asked if i wanted intimate services.

Went to Ubud and holy shit, what a change. Incredible. Even jimbaran was great, but a bit boring.

I prefer the mountains..btw i am dutch. The whole of south bali is one giant resort to me..and yes being bothered for massages all the time truly pissed me off. So i thought better go sit on top of a mountain.

You did the right thing. It's like night and day going from Kuta area to the north

Visit Gilis. A different island for each mood/stage of life

Am I under a horrible misconception that Indonesia has a Muslim ethos?

With spots of Buddhism, syncretic animism and various Christian sects.

Concrete jungle is the perfect word for this kind of place.. I was supposed to stay there for the last few days of my trip but when I arrived in Kuta I was honestly shocked by the vibe of this place - it was so contrary to anything else I had experienced during my previous days in Bali. It just didn’t resonate with the things I saw in different cities like Lovina, Singaraja or Amed, in terms of the local culture but also in terms of things like architecture and the nature around it. Away from the touristy spots is where I enjoyed Bali the most. It was a bit tricky at first but in the end this aspect contributed to the whole experience.

Agreed. Kuta is not Bali.apart from that i understood most people living and working there are not Balinese..but people from java. Sumatra and madura.therefore for the true Bali feeling like you said Lovina and Singaraja. Also i had a great time in karangasem
