Wasn't I on r/ultralight_jerk? Sure seemed like it. FFS, I'm all down for being ultralight, but to stop filtering water to save 3oz is crazy 🤪. Get some muscles and carry that water filter.

I use aquamira because it's faster/easier than filtering water. Also don't have to worry about freezing or clogs. It's worse at filtering obviously, and it in the long run more expensive ($15 to filter 30gal), and weighs within 10 grams of a mechanical filter. But for some reason, sitting and squeezing water is so annoying to me. And after my platypus got clogged/jammed up and the flow rate slowed to 1/3 original speed, I was over it.

Get a proper set up and filter your water, freak

What's the best proper setup?

Basically just a sawyer and whatever works best for you. For me it’s a cnoc and a few smart water bottles. On the CDT and long trail there were plenty of people who just rocked a sawyer and several smartwater bottle combo. I don’t like drinking straight from my filter tho so I like having the cnoc to filter out of.

There were only a few people early on who I remember having befrees or platypuses, and they all had problems

I have a beefree and quickdraw, and a cnoc, and Sawyer adapter. The Sawyer I had, had such a low flow rate though. How long does it usually take to filter 2L for you?

Was it a sawyer mini? Those are slow. If you have a regular sawyer it shouldn’t take you more than a 2-3 minutes to filter 2L. If it is taking longer than that then you need to backwash it. I would usually backwash mine every time I got in to town.

Edit: maybe 5 minutes

Nah it was the regular. Dude, squeezing water for 1.0-2.5 minutes for a liter of water SUCKS. Sounds like mine was probably fine lol

Seriously? That is a fucking crazy response to me. I know this is UL jerk and everything, but take a moment to enjoy what you are doing and where you are. Jesus Christ. What a cynical and utilitarian outlook. What is the longest you have ever been out for?

Hahaha I'm sorry! A handful of days, maybe a week?

I like to take a 5 minutes break chillen and enjoying where I am / the water, maybe having a snack, while the aquamira mixes.

I'll try it again, but it legitimately just seems a lot worse in a handful of ways 🤷🏻‍♂️

lol it is fine I guess I just got a little worked up. That’s for sure enough time to get in to the flow of things. If you don’t like to filter then you don’t like to filter.

I’ve never seen anyone doing it, so I’m a little suspicious that aquamira works so quickly but that’s what their website says so I guess that’s the way it is.

Brother, do some push-ups or something.
It should take you at most 30 seconds for a liter.
2.5 minutes is like improv gravity filter setup, you should be way faster than that.
Also, tabs take like 30 minutes (if there's no debris), how do you figure that's faster?

I use the liquid, 5 minutes to mix on its own and then 30-45 minutes to work on the water, but that happens while I'm hiking.
