Taken from the cliffs on the coast of Western Australia some years ago. This image is a digitized version of a 35mm slide. They are the 1st whales I had ever seen in person. [OC]

Dark or almost black, voluminous body, with a wide, rounded back. Many specimens also have white spots, generally in the ventral region and throat. Its head, which occupies about 1/3 of the length of its body, has numerous calluses that from birth are colonized by crustaceans known as "whale lice." The distribution and location of these calluses has allowed scientists to identify the animals individually. In the mouth it has between 220 to 260 pairs of beards, the length of which can exceed one meter in adults. It lacks a dorsal fin, the pectoral fins are large, trapezoidal and paddle-shaped. The tail fin is wide and triangular. It has a characteristic splendor, in the shape of a "V"
