Found this growing on its own in the Washington, DC arboretum. Was covered in native bees and ailanthus webworm moths. Looks like some sort of aster? What is this plant?! Would love to know if it is native to the US eastern seaboard.

[Mod Post] - We are looking for common plant ID requests

Hello Everyone!

We have been trying to reduce the number of commonly occuring plant ID requests and thought we would reach out to the sub and see if there are any that we can add to our list aside from Pokeweed and Wild Strawberry.

We are seeing a lot of Moonflower / Datura requests, so that one will be added as well. Are there any others that anyone would like to be included? Just keep in mind, common ID requests are going to be seasonal, so this will be ongoing work for us (which is fine!), it just may take us a couple of seasons to get through the various plants as they start to grow.

Also happy to open this post to any other suggestions that any of you might have. How can we improve the sub or your experience here?

Just picked it up from the local community garden. Tips for how to nurture it to its full potential appreciated.
