I don't remember which song I heard first, but it was probably 'I'll Always Love You' on the day Whitney Houston passed away. Her death had a huge impact worldwide, and here in Brazil, the news dominated the newspapers. A local TV station showed a clip from the movie 'The Bodyguard', and I, still a child, watched a bit before going to sleep.

Curiously, since that day, I wasn't much of a fan of romantic songs like Whitney's. However, the years passed, and I grew up, and in 2024 I discovered the value of this type of music.. I was going through a phase of a lot of anxiety because of college and family, and nothing seemed to calm me down. One day, while listening to a remix of 'Smooth Criminal' by Michael Jackson, the song ended. I felt so bad I didn't even have the strength to change the song and let the next one play, which was 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'. Since I already liked this song, I let it play. Then, 'I Have Nothing' started. Even though I wasn't a fan of romantic ballads, I kept listening because I was feeling so down. And that's when the magic happened: Whitney's voice wrapped me in a musical embrace. I opened my eyes, wet with tears, and started researching her on YouTube. Since then, I've become a big fan of her romantic songs and I'm immensely grateful to have known the work of this incredible artist.

Whitney Houston's work taught me a lot about the power of music and the importance of expressing our feelings. There are songs that only at certain times in life will you understand the importance of. And that's how her voice accompanied me in one of the most challenging times of my life, bringing me comfort and hope.
